What’s on Your Workbench? (Star Wars items only)

Never seen that before
I did the greeblies for this a bit of time ago at the request of 3DImpact , he was the first to assemble one of those this past years thatvi know off. Now the greeblies are available to everyone on my website and a few people have bought them, so this prop is out there a bit.
I'm working on 4 finished ones with electronics too, but I never get the time to finish those.

Good luck with your project Captain Dunsel , it's a fun one :)

Never seen that before

An excellent thread on the topic is found here:

I know there have been replica parts made, but has anyone produced a complete replica of Luke's Macrobinoculars? Just curious.

I don't think. I saw korbanth offer aluminium replica lenses once. But I don't think anyone made replica eumig, seagull... I once made a prototype of a replica Seagull button as they became expensive and are annoying to disassemble, but I didn't run them in the end.

Even if there was a replica that captured the external / visible details and the interior were essentially hollow, that would be pretty cool.

I think it's a market thing, most people are interested in the real parts in this case, there are plenty of those available and it would basically be more expensive to make a replica of those than buying the real part in most cases.
The lenses are the exception I guess as they became expensive, and we saw several people offer casts of those and even korbanth try a machined replica, but they were around 300$ if I recall, so we are basically back into the same expensive replica situation.

There was one amazing kit made by one of our members, all resin, but with working hood and lenses. He did not make many, but it was incredible. As mentioned though not cheap. It was cheaper at the time than real parts, but this was when the real parts were not as insane as they got, so it was more for real parts but about twice as much vs. today where it would be four times as much.

I spent 2k on my real parts Macros over the last two+ years. This was including getting real lenses with the aluminum knobs for $500 each. They had come back down from the insane1k+ prices.

First ever post - Working on my first ever Blaster build / Nerf conversion.

So far I've taken everything apart, sanded downn and filled all the logos & warning labels, drilled out the holes on the flare shield, turned the Nerf slider into a sort-of battery thingie and extended the handle by adding a power magazine by carving laminated lollipop sticks.

Hopefully I'm about ready to start priming!

I made a lot of progress on my Millennium Falcon Gunner Targeting Computer build…

I painted the backside of the “screen” of the upper viewer a black and mounted the top viewer to the bottom viewer (they can be easily separated for painting).

I also drilled and set all of the aluminum greeblies but all of them are removable…

…including the three “small top hat tube greeblies”. For these, since they are not held on by screws, I soldered 3 brass tubes to brass plates that were then JB welded to the inside of the viewer, allowing the brass tube to “poke out” through drilled holes in the viewer. The top hat greeblies will then be permenantly adhered to these brass tubes and held-on very securely:

That’s it for this weekend…now on to painting, applying the stickers, and illuminating the bottom viewer with a red light.

For the base color on these, they seem to be a very dark / muddy brown to my eye…, or, are these just a simple flat black?

great work!
to me, they are flat black, or satin black if you want it to look a bit fancier. Something to consider is that the stickers have a harder time adhering to a flat paint because it's a bit grainy. that is something I'm struggling with a bit with my assembled sets as I need to sell them and want them to be perfect.

I didn't include screws for the top hat tubes as we can see one fell from the side of the prop and it basically just left a round glue mark (refs are blurry, this is interpreted of course). But I'm impressed with what you came up with as I personally don't like glue either!

good luck with the rest of ther build, glad you are enjoying it :) :)

Great advice—thank you!

I know it’s crazy, but I keep hearing this music in my head as I build this particular prop:

Finished my Margolin today using as many original parts as possible. Ty to OdiWan72 for the nice and accurate cast.
I’m really happy with the result.
