Wow, wonder how many of the 275 go entered...

There's some tough competition to be sure. Heck I'm just glad I made a sweet gun I can take to cons now.

@Soulinertia

That is crazy cool man! I couldn't digure out how to intergrate some sort of handle into mine. But man you got it spot on! And the detail! Wow... Just wow. Love the LED's too. :D.

The robot is insanely awesome too! Thinking outside the box there.. :D.

Hi All,
Seeing a whole lot of great designs! It's tough competition!!!
I've had trouble accessing my account earlier, and have finally able to get in.
I've decided to do a rifle version of the Rightious Bison, so here is my attempt at it.
The Auspicious Gaur!

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Phew! Got mine sent at the very last second; worked RIGHT up to the wire. Hopefully you like. The light up bits are actual Soviet neon tubes (like nixies) and took far more time than I'd expected to get running properly. Still have bugs. The farther you pull back the trigger, the faster the Dekatron on the back spins, and the more the bar graph tubes on the sides fill up with light.

The United Republics of the Red Star got a hold of the original Bison and had at the design, streamlining and instilling typical Russian reliability and brute force into a design that originally boasted little beyond character... This particular instance originally received the winter paintjob, though it's now gone to rust, and rests on a ceremonial Republic display stand.

I've been so busy trying to get this together, and with other projects and real life stuff that I haven't participated in this thread much; here's a few comments I would've made in retrospect. ;)

Lurksmith! Excellent. I love how very chunky and angry your jump rifle is; the logo and magazine are tops!. Something I could see the black templars employing, both in color scheme and in attitude. Excellent use of found parts; they totally gel into the whole.

Knightjar, Super strong. Love the forms of the body- the hump and undercuts, and the color scheme is great too! Really cool use of the bison head in a way that actually makes sense as a decoration without interfering. And is that a little chunk of a nerf maverick I smell? =)

The piece coming off the grip to the stock is a really nice design element, and I love the thought of the detachable, underslung flamer! Convincing job on the steel paintjob too. Great!

Incredible work from everyone!

But I feel we have all been pipped at the post by whomever has done the front cover artwork for the novel 'Phoenix rising - a ministry of peculiar occurrences novel'.

The most comely red haired lass appears to be wielding a modified Bison...

By Jove, you're right! At the least, that is most assuredly a bison grip. I quite like that design on the whole too.

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Thanks xCALIBERx and Sven Beck!

I wish my camera was able to capture more of the detail. I'm going to take some more shots with a different cam tomorrow.

I tried to use as many high end materials as I could in my design. Materials include real copper, brass, aluminum, glass and wood. I hand-carved and stained the wood stock. Most of the components are friction fit, so very little glue was used. It really pushed me to the limit of my creativity and ingenuity to figure out how to re-purpose all these found parts to fit together. One of the funnest projects I've ever worked on! Special thanks to Art Andrews and the guys @ Weta!

I made a couple videos too to show the blinking lights and how my dimmer switch works. Overall I have 5 completely separate electrical systems!

Videos here:

Electrical Systems Demo - Custom Steampunk Ray Gun mod - Light Demo- Grordbort's Righteous Bison RPF Contest - YouTube

(The battery for the EL wire was just about dead by the time I got to the second video so it doesn't really show.)

WOW!!! Just WOW!!! That goes to all of you guys. Amazing work.

That's very cool. The rear one looks like it would toast the operator's face off if he pulls the trigger too far back!

Glad you like it! Actually, no there are no Nerf parts in there (although I can see the similarity). I set my self the goal of using no found parts on this one other than from the Bison itself, so the cylinder is custom made from aluminium.

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Man! I reckon. The electronics look awesome! How did you deal with bending the piping? That was one of my main problems, with kinking and what not. I ended up filling the pipe with sand and crimping the ends shut, then bending it! Haha. The stock on mine was originally a lump of cyrprus wood that i scroll sawed, sanded and stained. That was an effort for sure! :D. I got some better pictures too...

Hope you guys like it. I painted it with 'Hammered metal' spray paint - with a twist, I painted it with a paintbrush. :D. Worked well with a black base coat. Oh and the funnel at the end was created from a lump of wood i lathed down, moulded in fibreglass and cast in plastic. Then detailed with cardboard, body filler and other lathed bits and pieces.

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

We need a true show off thread, one that we can show all our close ups and NON neutral background shots. These entries are amazing. Great work everyone !!!

Ok folks, this is probably my third post on the RPF, though I've been lurking around for almost a year now. Let's see if I can load in some pictures properly:
