Meh...give 'em the Ponch already. I would wager it has been up on that site for some time, so whoever it was has been milking your work for some time. Ponch 'em.

Wow, that tool even copied your text word for word... even the email link to YOU to ask if there are any questions.

He's direct linking pics from your website. Modify or change the pics he's linking to into something totally unrelated: static snow, blank black, gay porn, etc. Then move your pics to a different directory and re-link them.

You can also visit the freewebs.com site and click the link at the bottom to report abuse - they have a few options that you can use to report this guy.

    Yes. Listen to the man.

I had a problem with some a-hole copying a DVD I made (I did all the authoring, menus, encoding etc.) and selling it as his own on eBay...
He linked directly to screengrabs that I had hosted on my own webspace.... BIG MISTAKE. :angry
I created a blank white rectangle in Paint Shop Pro, added text which read "I'm an untalented w*nker, who rips off other people's hard work... etc. etc." and then saved it as the filename of one of the original screengrab pics and uploaded it to my webspace. :D

3 days later, and 45 views on his auctions (he had 2 or 3 going at the same time) he ended his auctions early and send me an irate email... I got a lot of satisfaction outta that one... still makes me grin just thinking about it :D

Do it man... revenge is S-W-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-T :love

    Cheers,
    John

You might be able to find out how long the site has been stealing your images by checking here:
    http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

You can also track down the phone number for Freewebs and call them (I did) and demand that they remove the Site, the Pictures that are linked to your site, or both.

Somone did that to me, and I shut down their site completely.

    Here is Freewebs number 1-877-598-6687

I just posted this in his Guestbook:

For a Con Artist such as yourself I find it interesting that you are claiming that this is YOUR TUTORIAL.

YOU know as well as I do that you STOLE IT FROM SOMEONE MUCH MORE TALENTED.

Man, I love you guys. :lol

I was planning on giving him the "ponch" but so many people link to that tutorial and if I change it, some valid sites will be affected.

So, I sent that pantload an email and I will give him till tomorrow.

Then I will contact freewebs and have at him.

I'm surprised his bandwith hasn't maxed with all the attention you've given him. Freewebs sucks. Best of luck.

What a hoser. The fact that he even copied the "if you need help, e-mail me here" link would be funny, if it weren't so f***ed up.

    :angry Ponch. Ponch. Ponch.

{EDIT} Oh, I just noticed that you opted against the Ponch for a good reason. But it's still fun to say, "Ponch." :p

And thievery is just plain wrong. He isn't imitating me, he is stealing from me.

All he would have had to do was send an email asking for permission and I would have said OK.

As evidenced by this thread, RPF members have been leaving some fine feedback for the thief in his Guestbook.

When I look in the Guestbook, though, I don't see any of those comments.

I'm guessing that (unfortunately) the Guestbook comments go first to the owner of the site, so that he can decide whether to post them or delete them?

That's a shame. I had really hoped to see them on his page. And, more to the point, I had hoped that other people would see them.

I'm in the same boat with legit sites linking to my M41-a tutorial. I think I will put some watermarks on the pics. At least that way if the puke steaks my images, there will still be some bread crum trail.

I too will email him and ask him to remove the M41-a tutorial.

Thanks for the heads up, guys.

Personally, I'd get a much bigger kick out of swapping the pics for a fake tutorial using paper towel tubes, chewing gum, and cardboard, with really kindergarten-y results. Heheheh...

Hope you nail him - I'd be livid if my tutorials were stolen.

You're right. Buttheads that use stuff without permission should at least credit the individuals who created the stuff in the first place. If they don't know who did it, they should keep themselves open to crediting as soon as that individual informs them.

But if I were to employ the simple '.htaccess' trick to deny all off site transfer of images, when I want to post a pic, say on the RPF, would this not deny the linking of pics to the RPF too?

You can allow certain sites like google, RPF, etc. to link.

    "RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .friendlysite\.com [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .google\. [NC]"

I created a .htaccess file using a .txt editor and did this:

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://www.freewebs.com/ [NC]
    RewriteRule .* - [F]

Saved it in my htdocs directory and that pretty much nuked the pics he is using of mine. Still has my html type but the remote pic linking is down for now. I suggest everyone do at least this much. This should alloy all but said punk's domain to link.

Just replace the images on your site with some uhm- offending- pictures. Or something.

Then contact adsense at google. Tell them this guy is making money with illiegal content.

    And email his hosting services.

AND: put a watermark in your images.

I think you're correct. The "style" of Tino's posts matches that of the site's Intro on the Home page... which seems to be the only part of the site that Tino wrote himself.

"And thievery is just plain wrong. He isn't imitating me, he is stealing from me."

Seriously, I don't see the problem...
I may have missed it, but at anywhere on the site does he claim it to be his own work??

Once it's on the net, everything is "public domain".

Let me ask you...if someone puts pic from say Master Replicas item on their site, which is then used for measurements or comparison.
    Is that stealing??
