Announcement Welcome to the RPF's Forum Upgrade Support Thread

When using the search function, thread results with new posts aren't specially labelled. I always found this useful for following certain threads.
For this, I'd recommend following a thread. Per settings, you can get notifications or even e-mails notifying you of new posts. And you can always go to your list of followed threads to re-visit any of them, regardless of any recent activity.

Sounds great! :) Is there any instruction for sellers on how to use this new feature?

No specific instructions although we will be posting some updated suggestions. This new format is much more simplified than the previous one and pretty self-explanatory. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Meanwhile, Art Andrews... Lump me in with those who miss the old look and easier-on-the-eyes intensity, as well as those who primarily or exclusively use the desktop site. I'm not exactly a Luddite, but I do believe in the right tool for the right job, and recognize that while you can make something that does everything, it probably won't do everything well. It is far more efficient, for instance, to have a truck for hauling and a small car for errands in town than to have a huge SUV with which you try to do everything.

I have a flip phone and a tablet. I hate the way smartphones feel if held to the head phone-style, and I don't always have an earpiece handy to take calls that way. I can text faster, and without looking/by feel, on that thing, too. The tablet is an 8-inch class Android one that I treat more like a mini-laptop (even have a case with Bluetooth keyboard for when I'm traveling). So "mobile layout" is utterly useless to me and will always be. And on my actual laptop, I use Chrome these days, so can't darken it the way Firefox users can.

I get your point about the content being more important than the decor... But if your favorite neighborhood pub remodeled to all white paneling, stainless steel trim, and bright, uniform lighting -- like an Apple store... I don't know about you, but I'd probably stop going. You referenced the bland universality of Amazon and Facebook. But I don't hang out on those. I go there for specific things and then leave. I'll leave Facebook and Reddit open in their tabs, but don't hang out on them. The RPF had been what I tended to leave up in front. My virtual watering hole. I know things are still in process, but I wanted to give my first take early.

Regardless, this will be the year I finally upgrade to Premium. Not so much because of the ads, but so I can post things for sale. But, from what I see, that will overwrite my non-Premium membership status. Both might be nice. Likewise (pun), I am one of those also waiting for all my stats to port over. I trust the post count, but should have more than a couple likes -- those getting sorted will bump my trophy points substantially, though probably not to Senior Member yet. Given the especially visual nature of a lot of the work on here, might I suggest a higher user cap for total image storage? I like the idea of on-board hosting and it sounds like older issues with that are getting sorted.

It seems I can't start a new thread in the "Project Runs" section any more. It says "You have insufficient privileges to post here".

I don't need to post anything right now, but I'm also having the same issue. I can post in the Junkyard but not Project Runs.

I've just found out that the word "W i l l y" was censored and replaced by a * in my Wonka sales thread in the project runs. Why? I'm not a native English speaker. Does "W i l l y" mean something bad in English? The strange thing is: The censorship doesn't make any sense, since you can still see the name in the title of the thread and in the URL.

Curious if Dicky Beer is censored or not, on other boards it is

Glad to see it isn't :)

Any news on our missing likes? Being a member since 2015 I lost them all.

Just wondering if they will return or whether I need to up my game and get more likes on any further posts.

Are Off Topic likes going to be excluded or are we going to see another rediculous Pandering for Reputation Points thread?

As already stated a few times, the desktop version of the site isn't friendly to modern screen resolution users (or wide screens) with the text being quite small. On the other hand, it's near perfect on mobile devices.

The other sites in the network all have a different theme that seem to resolve this. Hopeful RPF will get the same treatment.

That is exact what it means. That may mean sellers have to make some slight changes to the way they sell, but we hope it means your sales will be even more successful as people an act on the impulse to buy your product.

Well sir, WELL DONE on that!!! That's a HUUUUUUGE game changer for the better. No more ping pong messaging to sell an item.

Thank you guys tremendously for such a feature. Looks like change isn't so bad after all.

Hey, about that paypal thing, how are the shipping cost handled? prices are usually excluding shipping cost, can we add them later on in paypal when the buyer buys the item?
also, I'm sure at least half of the people wil not really like that feature as we don't have control over our sales anymore. and we don't have control over selling locally or internationally. I know that I really prefer to sell in europe as shipping outside of europe is really complicated, we would have no choice now.
thanks

I was hoping the new upgrade would stop sellers from bumping every single one of their sales threads at the same time so the first 2 pages of the project runs section only have their sales on them. I know in the past you were only supposed to bump a sales thread once a week or so unless you changed something about it but that never seemed to be enforced and even if they only do it every so often it is till very annoying. I've mentioned this in the past in the off topic forum but nothing was ever done to curb the few people that do this.

Is there a way to view "Recent posts" for the whole site? On the old site I had "the RPF" as my entry point, but the new search requires me to put in specific search criteria (which would limit my search to those criteria instead of being able to get the entirety of the most recent posts.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide on this.

ya cant tell me this isnt intrusive ads!

i dont mind making money to keep a site running... but seriously

That IS a concern and something we are already in talks with the app developer about. Does it give you less control? Yes. Can you do things to help minimize the issues? Yes. We are working on a guide of suggestions in this regard.

This is almost impossible to do from the software side. The current rule is "A seller is only allowed to bump their thread once every 24 hours." If you see someone breaking that rule, please report their post.

There is a "News Feed." We have it turned off right now, but are looking into rolling it out.

Thanks for the response. I didn't know it was once every 24 hours, for some reason I thought it was once a week. Even so no one is breaking the 24 hour rule or even the once a week rule. The problem I have are the people who have to bump every single one of their sales threads at the same time so they are the only ones on the first page or 2 of the junkyard even if they only do it every couple of weeks.

I haven't seen this issue reported. I can't use the page up and page down buttons on my computer. When I hit them it puts me right back where I was so if I'm at the bottom of the thread like this one I have scroll up using the mouse.

I figured this one out. When I was trying to use the page up button my cursor was in the reply section at the bottom of the screen so it was staying there. I don't know how the cursor got there but know that I know I'm okay.

Wow this is so much better on mobile. Of course it will take some time getting used to the new layout but it’s fantastic on my phone. I haven’t tried desktop yet but i do 90 percent of my RPF’ing from my phone and you guys hit a home run so far. Good job
