Weekend Warrior's (I know ANOTHER one) Iron Man MK3 Build.

And here they are, the Left shoulder and the back. Pepped and ready for resin.

Should have them coated in the next couple of days.

Getting closer to having the peps done and moving on to building them up with filler!

Aaaaaannnnnnd here's the promised update.

I got the resin on the back and shoulder, couldn't resist putting it on, here are a few shots of the current upper half - minus the neck since I will not be ale to put that on until after I finish and separate it.

The shoulder isn't lined up right in the photo due to it being held on with masking tape, but I think you get the idea.

Getting the mannequin adjusted now to hold everything right, but thought I'd post the current progress.

What do you think?

*edit, one more shot on the mannequin...

Been working a bit on the right arm as well as starting on a few helmet testers to try to dial in the perfect fit. Decided to do as much of a suit up as I can at this point to see how it all fits and I have to say I'm pretty happy with the scale so far.

(had to split the cod to fit into it, but it isn't glassed yet so no worries :rolleyes)

nice work looking good! keep it up

Thank you. I appreciate the encouragement, was getting to a point where I had so little time to work on this that the end was feeling out of reach. Back on track now though and should have more updates very soon.

Damn Nice Fit !!

Thank you! I am very happy with the fit, I thought for a bit the arms looked too big, but seeing it all together pushed all those worries aside, I can't wait to get these peps done and move on to trying to finish them half as cleanly as yours. :thumbsup

Helmet progress, I went with thesharkmark VI, it really is a beautiful model. I'm happy with the scale on this, it fits the suit well. Now we'll have to see if it fits me.... It's going to be close!

And some super detail on the pep.

AH the good OL sharkmark, I built that thing 3 times till I found the perfect scale. First time too big, 2nd time too small, 3rd time just right. Looking good buddy, you even pepped in the eye detail. you're hardcore!!

Yeah, I'm a little afraid this one may be my "too small", but we will see - Oh, and being called hardcore by YOU is quite a compliment, thanks. (FWIW I actually left a couple of pieces out of the eyes, it was tough trying to decide what parts to leave on to get the edges right while still not doing all of it. :rolleyes )

Subscribed, so after you resined the front and back did you end up fiber-glassing the two together?

I will be doing that - for now it is still just paper and resin, no fiberglass, the photos of me wearing it are made possible with a lot of masking tape lol. :cool
Thanks for the subscription by the way!

k lol, but when you do that, perhaps some photos of you fiber-glassing them together for my benefit?

Thanks for the pm info surreal studios, thought I'd let you know I just double checked my files and realized I printed this helmet at .93, so if I can stuff my head in there I won't be able to use your "ears" after all. It's a tight fit but I have a plan that involves "hollow ears" more to come on that later, but for now, update time, one resined head, at your service!

Wow, man! the suit looks great! do you reinforce the paper pieces at all so they hold their shape while you do the first coats of fiberglass resin?

Nice fit on you, just like the rest of your build (y)thumbsup

Thanks Man! I'm very happy with it!
- So when do we get an update on your build? :confused (I'm waiting for some photos of finished casts...) :popcorn

Thanks for the compliment!
As far as reinforcing goes most of the files I used (Dancinfool Mark III) have some strategically placed braces included that you cut away after hardening. BUT, I did add some additional bits of paper and cardboard here and there to hold everything where I want it. The other trick is to do the first couple of coats very thin and let the part build up strength before you start piling it on. Hope it helps! :thumbsup

Looks good that mate :thumbsup

Thank you, and by the way, so does yours! I don't know how I missed that one before!

Well, I decided to do a little work on the helmet, I fiberglassed the inside and was originally planning on using Bondo for the finish work but after seeing the fine detail in Surreal Studios build I decided to go with drywall compound. BOY AM I GLAD I DID! It is about 1000x easier to work and no odor to boot. Obviously I plan to cast this now as the drywall compound wouldn't be durable enough to wear much, but that just means there will be potential for duplicates when the time comes...

Here is a shot of some "controlled application" of the filler:

And although it seemed like a totally legit use of the dryer to use the low temp setting to speed the curing of the compound apparently my wife does not agree and I have been banned from the laundry room. But I did get this pic, and it did dry nice and fast... :love

* also, I moved a bunch of pics over to photobucket and updated most of the previous posts to thumbnails rather than full images, it was getting a little pic heavy...
