What is the best way to weather doll clothing? I have a WWII figure and it just doesn't look right when he's coming straight from the dry cleaner!! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

Dirt and sandpaper. If you don't feel like playing with real dirt, go to your local hobby shop (like a Michael's or a place that sells scale trains) and look for Fuller's Earth. It's a synthetic dirt used in scale train displays.

Use the sandpaper to wear down places that would see a lot of wear, like the seams, knees and elbows. Then use the sandpaper to lightly wear down the rest of the clothing so it doesn't look new. Then just rub in some of the dirt and you're all set.

Tea and coffee also add a nice aged looking stain to cloth. There are so many ways to do this. Leave it out in the sun for the rest of the Summer, mist it with bleach, then use a vinegar stop bath. Put them in a rock tumbler, sand blast them, just washing them with your laundry (every load) for the next few months will wear them too.
For realistic wear, you are better off looking at the wear patterns of real clothes and copying it with sandpaper and and paint (you can get "mud" "dirt" etc. in a train store or hobby shop.

Good luck!
