Well, folks. March 6, 2009 is almost here. Is anyone working on a "Black and White. Moving. Changing shape. Not Mixing. No gray. Very, very beautiful" mask that keeps the oil constantly moving around, symmetrically-- maybe with little remote air pouches or something? You could put a fan under the hat to keep you cool under the mask, and you could run tubes to let you breathe-- but the changing shapes would be the big challenge.

We won't see the new Silk, Owl, Comedian, or Ozzie designs for a while-- but I figure there's not much they will change about Rorschach, and even if they did, a comic-based moving mask would be wicked to wear to premiere.

Is anyone planning to do a full Nite Owl II build? That's the character i most identify with at this point in my life.

I have a tall friend that I could shave and paint blue.

I could have sworn one member here had an awsome Rorschach costume. But for every other watchmen member i have seen was a member of the LOH.

I'm not sure they'll make a ton of changes to the costumes in general - I hear the movie is going to take place in the same time period it did in the book, so I feel like if they contemporized the costumes too much it wouldn't be believable.

I am DEFINITELY going to make the Nite Owl II suit, this one has been in the back burner since I read the novel as it came out, but with the new design from the movie I just HAVE to make it at last.

Who else is going to do anything from there?

For the mask - wouldn't they just use a white mask and CG the ink blots on it? It would seem easier that trying to do it practically.

If I were to guess, I'd say a number of different physical black-and-white masks, and only cg'ing the transitions. But that's just me.

I don't think there are "transitions" at all...I was always under the impression that the inkblots were constantly shifting. I'm gonna cast my vote for the "plain mask with moving designs added post-production" side of the argument.

Then you're in for a HUGE surprise. Possibly a disappointment.

Meaning you think the costumes will be disappointing in general, or simply that it won't be anywhere near what I'm accustomed to? I hate to admit it, but at least the latter is probably gonna turn out to be right. :lol

Fantastic! That is the costume in which I am the most interested.

I read somewhere that Rorschach's mask was gonna be a fixed image, probably on canvas. Which, of all things, makes no sense. I'm sure someone could make a mask that works, or CG the damn thing!

Mannie, is there any sort of news around the Nite Owl suit? ANY pictures of the finished suit whatsoever?

Keep us posted!

Hermes!

I've seen exactly ONE Watchmen photo, and it's this one (does show a bit of Rorschach tho...)

Yes, they've managed to keep production clamped down very well. The only costume info thus far has been the screenshot above, an image of Dollar Bill's suit (the bank super mentioned in the original Night Owl's book and it looks almost identical to the source image with the exception of dollar sign being squared instead of curved), a blurry character sheet in the background in one of the production meeting photos (the walls were intentionally blurred) and the mention that, on the first day of filming for Dr. Manhatten's JFK flashback that the actor playing Dr. M was wearing a baldcap with blue LEDs, assumedly for interactive light on the actor's outfit and/or motion capture tracking points.

Oh, and Dr. M will be sporting undies, most likely his "Viet-thong" outfit. :lol

Like I said, very tight lid.

But, seeing as how they even reproduced Rorschach's gloves accurately, I have high hopes that most of the costumes will be accurate, especially with Snyder's track record.

Fake Edit: I believe Snyder mentioned that Rorschach's face will feature CG "ink blots" underneath the clear latex surface.

I am going to do a Rorshach costume...about the moving blots I am sure the movie mask is cg'd in post. For my costume, I am going to do 3 or 4 quickly replaceable masks so the blots occasionally change.
Personally I think they nailed the Comedian and Rorshach...but the Owl II not so much. Looks like he raided Batman's closet.

There are some great new movie stills here:

They include a great shot of Nite Owl II in action. I'm really liking this costume, although I wish the goggle lenses were round like the comic's. Makes him look more Owlish that way. :)

It looks like the first trailer is out with TDK, and you can see it here!

Awesome!!! It looks SO true to the graphic novel, I'm speechless. Dr. Manhattan is absolutely FLAWLESS.

I'm sure Rorshach's mask is CG as well. It definitely looks that way on the magazine cover.

Nite Owl II DOES have a big Batman vibe, especially in the trailer, but I like the colors and textures.
Its just those goggles! Arrgh! Owl's have ROUND eyes! :)

The worst costume has got to be Veidt. I can't stand his look, he's way too skinny and boyish. And the costume reminds me of Robin from the Joel Schu-hack-er Batman flicks.

Bumping this thread. Anyone making these costumes? I'm wondering how hard it'd be to make a Nite Owl II costume and a Silk Spectre II costume for my wife for Halloween....
