Everyone says Logan's Run is so great, why? Other than having a super hot female hero, I don't see what's so special. I guess if you hadn't seen anything that came out after 76, it might be pretty good. It seems like a hour long show like The Outer Limits would have been a better format than a whole movie.

The gun was cool, but those Sandman guys are worse shots than Stormtroopers!

I love it because it was a response back to the "don't trust anyone over 30" counter culture.

A youth based culture doesn't cut it because they have sacrificed hard earned wisdom for hedonism. Logan and Jessica rediscover our humanity that was all but washed away by the sterile unquestioning pleasure seeking world under the dome. It was built to preserve the human race with ending life at 30, but not humanity.

    That's why I think it's great.

It's the last great Science Fiction movie before Star Wars ruined it all.

Don't forget this was still the era of "don't trust anyone over 30" so it probably hit a chord with that generation. I just think it's a fun movie to watch. I still have to pick up the novel it's based on though. Visually the models are really neat looking but I wish they'd gone into more detail about the events leading up to the city. The tv show delved into it but i'm not sure how close it was supposed to be to the movie storyline.

It has more to do with our childhood memories of cool movies and TV shows.

    Logan's Run
    Fantastic Voyage
    Andromeda Strain
    Lost in Space
    Speed Racer
    Space 1999
    etc.

Watch them today and it's impossible to compare them to what is made now, but in our minds they are the best things ever filmed.

You can do a great drinking game, where you take a shot every time you spot an extra who is obviously way over 30.

Some of the Sandmen look like they should be swapping their flame guns for bus passes :confused

I sort of agree with this believe it or not. Prior to Star Wars the great Science Fiction films were about unique and interesting concepts. After Star Wars it wasn't a requirement (although there still are some).

Logan's Run was the last great Science Fiction movie to require it's concept to make up for it's production value.

I love the film, but it's all about the idea.

I liked how it was a big adventure. I totally dug all the set pieces, Jerry Goldsmith's music and the locals.

In the book you cash out at age 21 BTW. One night TNT showed Rollerball, Soylent Green, and Logan's Run in that order. I thought you know, this really is a logical progression if you think of it.

Love the guns, love Jenny (especially naked Jenny), love the music, but...

...the special effects suck and I hate how the city is destroyed by two gun shots. Good design. :facepalm

The matte paintings by Matthew Yuricich were awesome though. The plates were shot in anamorphic, so Matt had to paint the mattes squeezed to match.

    Box is a great character.

Fish, and plankton, and sea greens, and protein from the sea.

I agree the matte paintings are awesome but some of the model work is iffy and the disco light opticals at the end are just totally silly.

LASERs and holograms were new on the scene then, so they embraced it a little too much.

There is no sanctury hologram 3D effect was pointless to do when projecting 2D.

I think if a film was Rated R back then the expectation was you had better see some *!
And it is still my expectation. :thumbsup

They actually cut out a lot of stuff they wanted to have in as it would have ended up X rated (no nc17 back then) especially in the room with all the naked folks.

Not with full frontal it wasn't.

    Edited for TV sure.

Maybe I'm wrong but unedited there was pretty revealing nudity.

No way, Logans Run was PG. I saw it in theaters and I was 8.

Opps, just saw you caught that. I loved the novelization as well, read it constantly. It was an interesting combination of the screenplay and the original Phillip K. Dick source material. Had elements of both.

I think it was (and still is) PG. I remember watching it on HBO way back when and it wasn't rated R. I think they could get away with a lot more back then.

Edit: Oops beat me to it.

    Boobage without R rating. LOL

It's a good example for a remake. Which you won't hear me say much.

Lots of source material yet to explore.

I was a Logan's Run fanatic when I was in high school. Read all three books and even had Mom make me a Sandman costume for Halloween.

Sadly, I didn't even notice Jenny Agutter's state of undress because the ideas were what interested me back then. :facepalm

Actually, that was pretty common back in the '70's. When PG-13 rolled around after Gremlins and Temple of Doom, all quick * shots went there. By the way, i am awaiting deliver this week of a Rylo working flame gun. Don't hate me. :)

    Phillip K. Dick?

The original novel was by George Clayton Johnson and William F. Nolan

The book was way different than the Movie and had some pretty cool concepts such as the computer that controlled everything underneath Crazy horse Mountain and Dome cities all over the world which were accessed via a tube train.

21 was the age for last day.

Johnson is doing Jessicas run which should be released shortly

I watched it on the TMC channel and it was rated PG with the nudity in it. I'm just outraged I tell ya! :lol

BTW, I'm not saying it's a bad movie, just that it's not really something I'd have to watch again any time soon.

They whole thing is very power of myth Joseph Cambpell kind of thing.
They pass through this portal, reborn into the sun, from this sterile technological existance into the dirty natural beautiful real world, too cool.

I see a lot of kids with heads down into devices all day long, and they are sort of in their own portable city of domes in a way.
