Was Jake's stylus a pencil or pen? DS9-pix

I was thinking of scratch building this stylus, but I would rather build it from the found item ... that is, if I could find it.

I've heard rumors this was made from a mechanical pencil or a pen of some kind. Anyone know anything about this?

I always thought the body was an artist pencil. I used to have a box of colored pencils that had details similar to the stylus.

It very well could have been made from a pencil itself, alittle carving and paint, with a added plexiglass piece in front, dosent seem hard to recreate!

I was just thinking about doing a few up out of 1/4" dowel. Itsawrap said it was 7" x .25", so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the measurements for a replica.
