Wanted - Old Ben Kenobi Robes Pattern

Hi all,

I’m in the early stages of putting together an Old Ben costume. I’m sourcing materials at the moment, and have bought some good boots.

I’m struggling to find a good, accurate pattern for the robes and other garments. Does anyone have anything that they would be willing to share, please?

Help me RPF, you’re my only hope!

Thanks, Andy

Hello Andy and welcome to the RPF,

Have you seen the complete patterns of all the parts to create Old Ben's costume available for a small amount by juliechantal.com ?

There are also several options on etsy under Ben Kenobi Pattern including Julie Chantal, which of those are most accurate I can't tell . . . I can try and summon Psab keel to check this thread ;)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I had seen those files by Julie Chantal on Etsy, but didn’t have any independent opinion as to how good they were. Have you (or anyone else here) actually used them, please?

Hi AndyPreston ... I have not used them myself, yet from what I can tell those look quite elaborate and even more important is the kind of fabrics you'll use which will make for a convincing appearance of old Obi-Wan, not if the pattern used follows every stitching of the original costume ;)

To quote Uncle George : 'Don't make it real, make it believable'.

I don't sell any of my patterns as they are proprietary to my business. What I could suggest though is to get the Simplicity, McCalls, or whichever brand patterns. Specifically I would get their Prequel style Jedi patterns and their Kylo Ren style patterns. Keep in mind that these are generic and not Lucasfilm licensed patterns, but if you use the upper portion of the Outer Tunic from the Prequel style with the wide sleeves, and combine that with the skirt portion from the Kylon Ren style, that should give you a good base to start the Inner Silk robe for the Guinness Kenobi. These pieces will obviously not marry seamlessly to one another, but with some modification you could get the basic shapes using tissue paper to connect the pieces more smoothly.

The Outer Wool robe is a more practical version of the Prequel style robe. A pointed hood, vs. a rounded hood. The sleeves and edges are left to fray, rather than having a wide hem. The sleeves are sewn on separate instead of being cut as part of the body of the robe, and the shoulders have seams unlike their Prequel counterparts.
