As it turns out, time is not on my side. So, I'm going to try something a little different. I am offering a $100 USD reward for identification of the kit part used as the gun turret base on the ILM filming model of Slave I. To qualify for the reward you must correctly identify the kit name & manufacturer, scale and part (preferably by number).

To collect the reward you must have a Paypal account in good standing that is capable of receiving $100 USD. You need not be a current member here. Once I verify the kit part information, I will transfer $100 USD to your Paypal account. Payment will not be made until one of the following is true:

(1) I acquire the kit and verify the part myself;
(2) I verify photo-reference you provide to me which includes images of the kit box, instruction sheet(s) showing the part/assembly and the actual part from the sprue;

I, and primarily 2 other colleagues, have been identifying Slave I parts since the middle of January (2007). We have identified and acquired somewhere in the neighborhood of 90-95% of all the kit parts used. The gun turret base is the last remaining "signature" part. I'm not willing to scratch build it. It seems clear that the part has been modified substantially. The exhaust outlets next to the turret look like some I've seen on Fujimi helicopters. The scoop on the turret could be a brake shroud intake from an F1 car. Then again...maybe not.

Just to be clear:

(1) Only one reward will be paid, and it will go to the first person to contact me (at slaveonebounty@comcast.net) with correct information that can be verified per the conditions above;
(2) I will keep the identities of all who participate in confidence - unless, of course, you want credit for identifying the part;
(3) Our effort will not result in a garage kit offering. MR has already announced their SS Slave I replica. This information will be used for personal build-ups.

If you have the information please contact me by sending an email to:

Have You Seen This Part?
The part (shaded blue) is approximately 2" in length.

just guessing here, don't want any money just offering hep.
but that sure looks like either a part to a motorcycle, or maybe an vector exhaust nozzle for a harrier jump jet.
Will

One of my thoughts was a bike fuel tank, still havent found one to come close though.
The harrier nozzle is out due to size alone sadly fox :cry

I think the wheel-looking part might not be integral to the rest of it. So possibly two donor parts.

The bottom view pict uses a trimmed part from the Harrier. The part with the four holes is the end of the weapons pod I think it's called. I don't have anything to judge size but the 1/24 Harrier has the part. I will shoot a pict of it.

I think the wheel looking thing is a rim for a 1979-81 Trans Am rim. I had a 1981 Turbe Trans am and it had rims that looked like that. They used the same looking rims on the newer F body stye later after that so maybe the early model F body type of Late 80's F body type rim in 1/25.

Here is the HArrier part. It is from the Harrier. That assembly appears to consist of three parts.

would you be meaning the turbo hub cap from the 82 formula Trans Am like from the series knightrider.... :D I looked at all the super charger scoops I could find, and I still think it's the exhaust nozzle from a Harrier like Mark says :D

Hey Will, yeah. The 82 and 83 had those rim options BUT the Silver anniversary 79 had them as well as the 80 or 81 Turbo Trans Am. Ah. The last of the big F bodies :(
I posted a pict for the part. It IS the Harrier part.

OMG, we were all so damn blind lol, guys i see the damn thing now. A while back a Trans hub was mentioned, looks like good minds think alike.
Cant wait for Allan to see this, he will be sooo stoked....

Mark...awesome work on the weapons pod, i guess we were pretty naive to think this tiny turret was a single part from a tree lol.

I recocnized the 4 hole pattern but it was late last night and I was beat. New baby boy only two weeks old keeps you a bit busy :D And the fact mom lives 53 miles away till I get things wrapped up here and buy a new house for us all. I dug it out first am and shot the picts. The rim I'm sure of also. The back part I will be tearing through my kits to see if it's around.

Mark

You have no idea how happy this makes me Mark, so i know Allan will be doing cartwheels as hes been staring at this for a while :lol
I for one look forward to the rim pics.

Well, I'm ecstatic with this new development. While, at the same time, I feel pretty stupid since I have had that kit and have looked through it about 6-7 times. :$

In typical fashion, my "conditions" were not specific enough to handle a "tie" scenario, where the information was provided by 2 different parties. Mark has provided more information, specifically regarding the Trans Am rim. However, another also provided the harrier gunpod info, and a bit earlier than Mark.

Look guys, I think the most fair thing to do is split the $100 between you both for the gunpod id. I'm not made of money, after all. But, I want to be equitable. So, here's the deal.

Mark will get half of the bounty. The other individual will get the other half. Then, I will put up another $50, payable under the same conditions, to the first person to come up with the remaining kit parts to the gun turret. Sound fair?

And last, but not least, a BIG THANKS to Mark and Friend for the information.

Has the rim been confirmed ?

The only rims I remember from the late 70s and early 80s had square-shaped pockets along the edge; approximately 20 slots spaced around the edge. The photos show retangular slots, a total of 12.

Here's an early 80s kit as an example:

And a late 70s:

The other problem with the late 70s rims is that they had a concave center.

I hope I'm wrong here and there is another rim; maybe from an early 80s Corvette that would match.

Well I'm wrong about the early 80s Corvette rim - It changed in 1984, but there are 10 slots and one end of the slot is angled:

The other problem, of course, is that it would be the wrong vintage. Empire was released in 1980, so the kit has to be earlier than 1980. The Indy Corvette Pace Car from 1978 has rectangular slots around the edge, but it is also concave; not as much as the Firebird though.

Jay, just get me your paypal addy, I think I can afford your rates. :D

Sounds like this is at least 3 parts, though...

The truly sad thing is that I've come across a large number of kit parts of that vintage that would have made fine gun turrets without the complexity of combining multiple parts from different kits. It's almost like ILM knew people would be looking at this stuff 20+ years down the road...

Can I have 50 cents for being right about it being two parts? ;)
[/b]

Awesome. I'll start a collection in our group to pay the bounty so you don't have shoulder it all.

Hey, hey. MUCH APPRECIATED, but not necessary at all guys. This has been my own personal Moby Dick experience...LOL :$

Besides, we're not completely there yet. There's a couple more parts to it, I understand.

Well Allan if it offends you its cool buddy :) , but i for one will be glad to put my hand in my pocket, its been worth it.
As for a couple more parts, it literally is that now, we have all worked so hard in putting this puzzle into perspective.
