Want to make a rocketeer costume

Hey guys,

I'm interested in making a rocketeer costume and alittle bit confused where to start. I found the jacket but can not seem to find the jet pack or helmet.

Anyone have any ideas?

if you want to take the time you could do the pepakura helmet and pack.

it really depends how accurate of a costume do you want.....and of course, how much you are willing to spend.........

the most accurate rocketeer costume will run around a few thousand dollars...about 3-5 grand........

you can do a cheap inaccurate version which most people do........

i wouldnt recommend pepakura because it never turns out great.....

That would be great man, I sent you a pm a couple of weeks ago about the pack...did you get it ?

Im looking at doing it cheap maybe max of a grand I want to spend on it

I built a rocketeer helmet and jetpack for a friend who wore it to the El Capitan 20th aniversery showing of the rocketeer. The quality of the prop was on par with the uber expensive costume with only a few hundred dollars in materials costs. Man hours however were astronomical. Lots of sanding and smoothing.

I'm working on a suit too. Trying to get ahold of the guy who does the castings for the jetpack but he's taking his time to reply lol.

As for the helmet, I'm torn between the MR, the bargain one in the junkyard of the other one that comes in a kit, i think it's the acme.

Then there's the jacket and the helmet liner. Tricky!

I know the jacket i want (just getting a crap version of the jacket lol) I would love a cast of the jet pack I saw a version of the costume another member here made and it looked awesome. Brought my childhood back to me lol.

Im looking at that helmet in the junkyard for the price and what I want i think it will do.

The hard thing to get is the gun....

I also made a rocketpack before any kit was available out of cardboard and I suspect a lot lighter and inexpensive than any kit.

I strongly recommend the acme helmet and rocket pack kits....they are by far the best kits available.....i own a ton of helmets and nothing comes close to the originals then the acme kit......check out my collection page for pics of all the helmets


the acme rocketpack is perfect..........when it is fully finished, it is a beautiful thing

Thanks! I've always wanted to do a Rocketeer costume- I'm thinking it would be perfect for my seven year old son for Halloween. Of course I'd love to make a hand formed aluminum rocket pack for myself someday...
