WannaWanga ANH Graflex Configuration

Just wait until we find out the type and orientation of the endcap stamping, and we’ll have to start all over again.

...y’know, something is still nagging at me.

Thoughts on this? Roy?

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I have to re-investigate this situation. I thought I had it nailed, but I will check the length of the bottom tube of my 3D model again. I believe that the difference between max inward and max outward position is about 1mm. You're saying that the grip lengths should all be longer by that difference. The result will be that the bottom can't be taken off any longer. You might be right.
I will check this later, but it will have to wait until February since I'm traveling to the US for a nice vacation in California (yes, also to Galaxy's Edge!)
I will close the shop during my trip tomorrow until Jan 31st.

Interesting.
Sounds like fun. Hope you enjoy your vacation!

Who's "we"?

I sleep just fine not knowing - or caring - what the endcap stamping on the original prop was.

You should try it. You might find it liberating.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Just finished my "replica" from 'A New Hope'. Notice the word replica is in quotations... I had fun and converted my Graflex in the spirit of how the original prop makers would've made their props rather than creating an exact copy. It's for sure not an exact replica as I did not measure the grips nor glue them in the exact orientation. Same goes for the D-Ring on the bottom. And I also excluded the four rivets on the side (I didn't have those size of rivets available so I will add them once I purchase some). Lastly, I left the small, square washer on the metal clamp.

Thanks to Roy, I was able to finish this great prop with his wonderful, and inexpensive if I may say so myself, replica parts. I can now proudly display my new lightsaber and add it to my growing collection of what some may consider junk, but I consider treasured memories from my favorite movies.

What do you folks think? Don't hold anything back if you think I just screwed up a vintage treasure, lol. I may have altered it beyond repair, but it was fun and worth it in my opinion.

ive never seen that locking screw before?
it's present on some vintage graflex to lock the upper part to the clamp. Something most people removed probably or something that was abandonned along the way by the factory.
It's wondered if the screw is present on the ESB bespin hero saber too or if it's just rust. See the lightsaber guide for that. :)

Thanks to the 4k we can confirm it’s some kind of mark.

The clamp orientation is correct for the screenused version. The publicity photos version rotates the upper half 180 degrees, a la all of the other Graflex/Skinnyflex variations.

So... Let's say you have a vintage Graflex bottom drilled for a (now inaccurate) one-rivet D-ring clamp. Did anyone try to remove the clamp and drill the two holes for the new, accurate clamp instead of replacing the whole bottom? Is it possible to drill two new holes on each side of the old centered hole without utterly destroying the bottom? Asking for a friend. ;)

Yes, I've done that myself. It does cover the old hole and you can drill two new holes on both side.
