Walking Dead Sheriff Uniform

Hello everyone.

Relatively new member here. Haven't posted much as this new site has given me some trepedations as far as how to post properly, and use all the resources available (such as uploading pictures, getting updates in my email box when people reply, etc). So any pointers on that would be appreciated. I'd love to contribute more here.

Also, have been watching this thread with much fervency. I am a stickler when it comes to accuracy with the Walking Dead costume and am working to compile not only a SA costume for my collection, but one to also wear. So I have LOTS of questions to ask but will post them later for any help you can all provide me.

The biggest object I am finding that's hard to find and pinpoint the place that the production obtained theirs from is Rick Grimes's holster, gunbelt, etc. As I am relatively new at this, if I am exceeding the limit of pictures to post, if they're the wrong size, etc. I do apologize.

I am hoping the following pictures will help pinpoint the holster better as well as providing all of you with advances your Walking Dead gear research.

So without further adieu, the pictures:

Patch Question:
Ok so if the answer is out there and I'm just missing it I am sorry. But, what is the official size of the sheriff patches on the sleeves? Got 2 sets from 2 different ebay sellers and one set is bigger than the other. One seller was alienentertainment (who I got an amazing badge from) the other is workwearoutlet. Both patches look the same and great but one is bigger than the other. They are both sewn on to my shirts ( I got one shirt to keep clean and one to bloody up) so just wondering which is right. And any opinions on which I should bloody up and which I should keep clean. I have an idea which I want to bloody up but want to hear if my theory is a good one, lol.

im not sure of the exact size, but i also have the ones from workwearoutlet and they seem spot on to me. i believe that there was some measurements of the patches on one of the first 3 pages on this topic, i would start there.

since we are on the topic of the patches i was wondering if any one had ordered the 'zombie hunter' uniform shirt from quartermaster? i noticed that the patch they had on the shirt was different but looked interesting, and id love to see a close up of one.

Well, after doing some checking and coming across a reputable fellow who can duplicate almost any holster possible and makes holsters for law enforcement, I found out that the holster that Rick wears is an old vintage holster that hasn't been made for quite some time. The fact that it has the two straps that snap together over the hammer of the revolver shows its age.

Now I don't know this for sure, but I believe that the one that they're using in the series is a vintage holster - either that, or they had it custom made to replicate an old holster. The vintage design just goes back to show how "old-fashioned" that law enforcement center is (a colt python 6 shooter, a vintage swivel holster, etc) that Rick works for.

So my theory is that to properly replicate this holster or find one will entail one of two things:

1) Searching vintage holsters and happening across a vintage one, or
2) Finding someone to custom make one of these holsters

The fellow I've found said he can make the entire set up, but it'll cost around $4-500 which, I think, isn't that bad considering the prices we props guys/gals spend on other items. For me though, while the price isn't that bad, it's the guarantee of getting exactly what one wants.

That's the scoop so far. Will keep all of you posted if I find out anything new. :cool

Found this on ebay. Got it today, opened the package and took a dremel with a cutoff wheel to it.

Looks like you got the 6.5" holster ... It's too bad you cut off the end to make it "screen accurate" since they're getting so hard to find. :confused

Or you could go one page back on this thread and check out all the links I posted to current eBay auctions. Original holsters still go for less than $100 you just have to be diligent in your search.

To add to the patch question, it looks like some patches on eBay are darker brown than others...

WALKING DEAD SHERIFF PATCH UNIFORM SCREEN ACCURATE KING ZOMBIE COSTUME PROP RARE | eBay

The Walking Dead Uniform PATCH halloween Costume Party IRON-ON | eBay

The first link, IMO, looks much more accurate than the second, but maybe that's just the flash washing out the colors on the second link? Are everyone's patches a dark brown like they are on screen or are some versions a bit a lighter than others

Indeed, I did take a look at them. Very nice selection to choose from and your research is valued.

However,

1) the price I quoted was for everything - the gunbelt, holster, and accessories on his belt.

2) I am very picky when it comes to my gear. As I'm looking to compile a costume for a display, I need every nuance right. And that includes everything about the holster - from the weave pattern, to the leather design, to how the curve of the holster top is, to the exact design of the two snap clasps, etc etc. There was one on your list that was very close, but still different in design to the one in the show. For a good close enough, that one would do just fine. For someone like me, I need the little details just right.

Not saying that vintage holsters aren't available for a decent price, just saying that I haven't seen any yet that are exactly the same as Rick's holster.

This thread has been super informing first and foremost. I love and respect everyone's attention to detail from the proper uniform down to the accessories on the belt. Humbly speaking I must say though that I am now confident after reading 488 replies that I am the first person to create the Walker version of Rick Grimes. (please don't steal the idea) I just figured I would put my completed look out there. By doing the Walker version I'm able to really take the creative aspect much further. I've decided to ditch the hat and gun/outer belt. Instead I'm focusing those detailed ideas on professional grade zombie make-up, contacts and life-like Walker key elements. I have everything needed to complete this on Halloween. I plan on posting pictures after the holiday for whoever is interested in seeing the final product. Happy hunting to all who make 2012 an epic Rick Grimes/Walking Dead super fun and successful Halloween. Thanks and much respect to everyone who has posted.

Take a look a few posts up @ skippster86 ... Thats about as close as you're going to get until someone is able to snap a photo of the makers stamp on the back of the hero holster.

It's a 6.5" swivel basketweave holster with the end cut off. :behave

Everything else on Grimes duty belt is fairly common (including the belt). I just don't think spending $4-500 on custom work will result in a better rig than what you can pick up for about $200 (+/-). Just my $0.02 ... Good luck either way. :thumbsup

For anyone still looking for the correct watch, it's hit 'n' miss on eBay, but I found 2 places in the UK selling them.

Kenneth Cole Silver Dial Stainless Steel Strap Men's Watch KC3584 - The Watch Factory UK

Kenneth Cole Reaction Classic Round Watch - KC3584 | ZG Watches

In case you missed it from an earlier post Rick Grimes wears a Kenneth Cole Reaction (kc3584).

Warning about Ebay Walking Dead uniform patches

I wanted to give everyone a warning about the Walking Dead sheriff's uniform patches available on Ebay. They are NOT the same size from one company to another. I ordered my first pair from a company called "workwearoutlet" and they were a good size and look great on the shirt, in my opinion. I needed a second pair for a second shirt and workwearoutlet didn't have any for sale, so I went with a company called "fancydressoutfit." I received them quickly, but when I pulled them out of the envelope I immediately was struck by the perception that they were too small. When I compared them to the previous pair I'd purchased, I discovered that they are noticeably smaller (too small, in my opinion).

workwearoutlet patch dimensions - 4" tall, 3 1/2" wide
fancydressoutfit dimensions - 3 7/8" tall, 3 1/8" wide

Update: I just went to fancydressoutfit's current patch ad on Ebay and it says, "Size: One Size Fits All. (3.75 inches wide by 4.5 inches long)." Those are absolutely not the patch's dimensions.

I got mine from fancydressoutfit because the embroidery/image looked cleaner, and they happened to be cheaper ... I've got them in hand now and I'm still happy with them.

The only other current producer I found is alienentertainment (dims 4-3/4" high x 3-3/4 wide) and they claim its screen accurate.

I decided to go with the trekclassic version. They are more expensive, but they look leagues better than all the others out there, imo. The embroidery has more dimension, stitching looks cleaner, and they are the correct color brown. As far as their size...I guess I'll find out.

Here's a comparison of the 4 currently on ebay....

Lol this is essentially my post and situation so glad to know I'm not the only one. I got the workwearoutlet ones first, liked how the shirt looked so much also decided I needed a second shirt to bloody up. workwearoutlet had none got them from alienentertainment. A bit bigger then workwearoutlet.

So I was thinking I would use the workwearoutlet ones for the clean shirt and the bigger alieentertainment ones for the bloody. That way everything about the bloody shirt will be more exagerated, over the top. What do you guys think? Does that make sense? lol

Here are my first two prototype stars. I think the third try will be the charm as I found the correct "blank" used by the show. I also can make the collar insignia.

Here are my first two stars, the next one will be right:

Here are the collar emblems I can provide:

This was a rush up, the manufactured ones are perfectly enameled. They are all metal, plated and with a clutch fastener.
I really like you replica badges and am working on completing a Rick Grimes costume for a costume contest this year. Do you still have replica Kings County patches and badges available? I will gladly purchase them from you.

Sorry for all the pics! :s

I found this website while looking for the same thing for my costume. They have the exact belt and relatively close matching holster. Good Luck.Police Equipment | Security Uniforms | Tactical Gear | Quartermaster

The belt is a very general item. Pretty much any "Sam Browne, black, basketweave duty belt w/ a square nickel/chrome 2-hole buckle" will work. There's almost no difference between the various makers.

I found mine on eBay. It's new made by Triple K and cost $20.

The more I look at the pictures posted by Webley I'm convinced he's wearing a 4" swivel holster but with the muzzle end stitching opened up to allow for the 6" barrel. I guess it's a fairly minor mistake by the costume dept, but it just doesn't work in the real world.

I'm still waiting for my holster and STTI .357 Colt replica to arrive. Hopefully I can don the rig correctly. :lol

finally got my pants from QM today and they forgot to put the tan striping on them!! but i called them up right quick and they are going to send me a new pair at no cost with the striping. this right there makes them a stand up company in my mind! and i didnt even need to return the other pants.

When your revolver gets to you let me know how easy your orange tip comes off. Was gonna get that one but that orange tip looks like a pain to get rid off. The UHC one is tiny and pops right off. So I got two and put them together taking the grips fro one which style wise are a little more accurate than the STTI and switching them onto a silver body. This is the finished product.

Not sure what to do with the orange part of the sight though. Would you guys just pop it off or hit it with a lil touch up paint?

On the real steel, the Python has a dark grey rear and front site so you could just get some dark grey/gun metal acrylic paint and touch it up.
