Visiual Dictionary Stormtrooper helmet

Im curious over the helmet used in the Visual Dictionary. I just love the interior shots of it! From what I understand it may be constructed by Mr Don Bies. :thumbsup

Ive been told that the cut away version most likely is a tour helmet.

However I never found out what the origins of the one facing the reader is. Details, appearence and sharpness looks like nothing Ive seen either on screen nor among fan made helmets. :confused

Anyone have any clues to the background of this mystery helmet?

Cheers

Did you see the SDCC Exclusive Sideshow 12" Luke and Han as Stormtrooper's have this trooper bucket interior inside the little helmets ?

I seem to recal reading the personal page of the guy who sculpted the Riddell mini helmets wherein he stated that his mini helmet design was copied full size for the VD.

It also spoke of a planned but never released TIE pilot helmet.

Not the same page but here's a link that mentions the original sculptor by name Chris Reiff.

Nelson Hall made the interior of that mask. As I recall, he vacuuformed styrene over an helmet pattern that was made by pouring plaster into an existing mask. I laser cut some of the detail, but Nelson did the vast majority of work on it, based in part on David West Reynold's design and mainly on the Riddell display piece.

The helmet facing us was composited in later; don't know its origins. It looks like it's the box art from the video release VHS tapes from the 90s....?

Thank you for the information!(y)thumbsup.
I see about the Ridell. I thought it was the other way around.

I got to look for the VHS boxart photos then.

Thanks!

Fyberdyne (Mark/Ed/Mike) was the source of that helmet shell (the one facing the camera). It was made for David West Reynolds, although they gave it to him as an entire helmet (not cut apart).

The picture of the front of the helmet Is indee one that we made for DW Renolds. I strip the helmet myself. We made David two helmet that day and one for me. It is differant from any I have seen. I have it's brother in my office. I have had it at some of the prop parties so there should be some picture out there. Also as proof if someone needs that here is a thank you to Edward Endres Jr of Fyberdyne Laboratories on one of the back pages in the VD. It is about costumings. The helmet we sent David was a Fiberglass helmet and had nothing on the inside but some foam. David West Reynolds provided molds he had and we casted parts and did a lot of work to make them useable, then made fiberglass mold and cast the parts.
Hopes that helps.

Ah that really helps and thanks for clearing this up! :thumbsupLOL Ive been wondering everytime I see that pic. Im sorry for my bad english, but I dont understand if you or someone else designed it?

Edward Endres (not jr in my swedish edition) and Fyberdyne is surely named
in the book, I never noticed Fyberdyne, even though I know of it after reading about you on starwarshelmets.com and the prop den.

If you happen to have a photo on your helmet Id sure love to see it.:thumbsup

Thanks to Gino also!

Ok I try to sort this out: Who disign it? Well I am not sure what the answer is. David west Reynold the Author of the book, Sent Edward a set of molds he said was off an original trooper. At the time it appeared to be differant then any I had seen. We thought it could be then. We cast some parts but the mold was urethane and we had to cast bondo parts. After that they just needed to be clean and straighten. The helmet had to be cut apart and worked on just to be usable. Edward, Mike and myself all work alot on the helmet the mold was just horrible. When we were done it look more like a helmet but I know it was a long way from the piece from the mold. We had to make all the add on parts. I have restore a few screen used helmet so I know te differant betweendip and bumps that shouldn't be removed and the ones we should keep. Also at the time we did this there weren't alot of good pisture to use as refferance. We try to stay close to the movie helmet from what we started with. It looks like a ST hemet. Funny thing is I had a cast off a real helmet in my shop for a year and never compare them. Now I wish I had. I gueess I should have taken some pictures.
Hope that helps.

Ah, thanks for your reply Fyberdyne Labs. I appriciate it!:thumbsup

Thats a cool history! In a way you guys have actually put a mark in the SW universe by this helmet. I like it and the sharp details, like the teeth and vocoder, is more belivable then the original props. It was a good choice by David West Reynolds to use it.

I understand if you dont feel like posting pictures of its brother. If you ever change your mind Im interested in seeing them. Its a really unique and cool helmet.

Thanks again for giving all the info!:thumbsup

At one time I owned an entire fiberglass suit made by fyberdyne. I met them at the Kane Co toy show many years ago where they shared some pics of the suit and helmet. I may be able to dig up a few shots of me wearing the suit.

I do remember having a pic of my helmet side by side with a few other stormtrooper helmets (taken on a bed in a hotel room) at Dagon Con in '95 (?)
I will do my best to track down those pic's.

Thanks Tuskin Scout, that woud be awesome! And that would befrom the same mold as the VD helmet?

Happy to help out. I was told that my helmet was just as the one featured in the book. I can say for certain that the helmet was larger than any of the other Stormtrooper helmets that I compared it to.

It is not that I don't want to share a picture. I just don't have any online. I could take one if it wasn't on a shelf ten feet high. I have Muscular Distrophy and can get it down. That is why I hope some one had taken one when I had it at the prop party.
As for the whole suit it would be the same. There is only one Fyberdyne suit and helmet. that would have been it. As far as I know there are only a couple suits out there. I just have a helmet not sure if any of the guys in the group have a whole suit. I will look and see it one of the guys have a picture up.
