Are there any differences in the various releases of the Visible V8 kit? I was going to look for one, but wasn't sure if they were all the same.

Originally released by Renwal, later Revell. Up to the late 70s, it was motorized and had a parts tree for a battery box. For some SW props you need this version, as the later non-motorized releases omit the battery box, which includes, for example, the "motor/coil" piece used on the ESB Han blaster.

Still lots of SW parts in the non-motorized version, though.
