vintage monster make-up book scans - updated w/ more make-ups

I scanned some make-ups from a book for a friend to check out and figured I'd share them here.

The book is MAKE-UP MONSTERS by Marcia Lynn Cox circa 1976. I got this back in grade school from one of the annual Scholastic "free book fairs" (do they even do that anymore?); got a second monster make-up book the same way a couple of years later (MOVIE MONSTERS by filmmaker Alan Ormsby).

This book (as well as the Ormsby one) can be found on eBay and Amazon at decent prices.

Fairly simple make-ups designed for kids, but still show some neat (and cheap ;) ) techniques.

Lots of pics, so I'm just posting direct links....

Hugest flashback seeing these scans - had entirely forgotten about this one. Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup

Holy cow! I saw this book once in 5th grade and have been looking for it for the 20 odd years since. Awesome score.

wow neat! I wish I knew about this when I was younger.

I had that book. It's probably still at the folk's house. The Scholastic stuff sure wasn't free, I had to use my allowance/ birthday money to buy it. I remember trying the werewolf make-up....cotton balls are not the same as lamb's wool, I found out.

My mom wouldn't even let me attempt some of the more "intensive" stuff :lol

As I recall, Scholastic had the monthly (?) book buying newsletter, but once a year they did a giveaway; no idea if this was something regional or for po' shools or what. I still have at least 4 books I got from those giveaways.

my mom didn't know, I don't know if she knew I had the book or not, but I'm sure she wondered why there were cotton strands in her mascara wand.

yeah, got the newsletters, full of motivational kitten and puppy posters. I remember once a year or so in grade school they'd bring in the books , but yeah, still had to pay.
