I decided to take the VC collection toy X-wing and mod (replace) some of the really toy looking pieces and re paint it. It's a good size at almost 20" long and upon first glances seems pretty accurate or at least a good starting point! I don't really have the XP yet to do a full scratch build so I thought this would be a fun project to try some stuff out on! The goal isn't to do a perfect replica of one of the studio X-wings, but rather get enough ref so I can see what just doesn't hold up well on the toy and rebuild it, ending up with something that IMO will serve as a cool "x-wing" display model with some basic fiber lighting in it.
First things to get replaced are the laser cannons and the wings, they are REALLY flimsy and toy looking so going to just replace them completely scratch build these from, scratch... hmm, okay
I took the cannon from the toy and decided to keep the little half round part and details and rebuild the barrels out of straight cleaner Styrene tubing.

laid out the matching sized Styrene tubes cut to length.

Drilled out the appropriate sized holes in the "keeper" piece so I could thread the new tubes nice and tight.

and WALAH!! not 100% accurate but again but WAY better looking for what I want to accomplish with this
