Copper is very bacteriostatic and considering these odd times of viral pestilence, it is oddly reassuring to have this fact verified. I think Brasso would be a good choice to keep up the shine. Renaissance is a great product as well but won't really polish a tarnished saber I don't think.

Just to clear up ANY doubt: we now have confirmation from one of the TROS prop masters the prop itself was polished aluminum and polished copper.

(not that we didn't already clearly know that, but it has now been verified)

And this is why I love the RPF, who else has that kind of resource at their disposal. That's a tough call for me now, but the rose gold just "feels right" to me.. lol

So I was talking to suntzu707 about this, and I have an inquiry to the factory about it, but what do people think (on the Rose Gold group) about going ALL in and doing Rhodium plating on the aluminum as well?

do people want the Rolls Royce of Leias or am I just having insane ideas again?

I like the idea, if we're plating anyway, would be nice to really finish it off. Did I miss it, are there any cost projections yet?

It sounds cool but I'm already a bit scared about the price increase for the rose gold and wondering how much this process might also add to it. I'm worried about getting priced out! I guess it depends on how much of a price increase would result. If it resulted in a major increase I'd be okay sticking to polished aluminum like the prop.

not yet. I am getting relative cost differences since landed costs cannot be determined until design and specs finished.

RG = copper + y
RG & rhodium = copper + X

dunno. I am asking. We know the RG by itself will be roughly $100 more than the base copper run. So the rhodium will probably add some. We're gonna get a full option breakdown so we know and I will bring that back to this group for weigh in. I don't like to do things in a vacuum.

yes. We DO know the actual prop was High polish copper and aluminum. That will be the base run. Period.

We do not. Well, nothing that can be committed to until we know costs; which we cannot know until fully quoted with machining specs.

however, based on the Hero we are doing... we'd guess base copper run around $300-350 mark.

To fulfill your request of opinion, I am fine with just aluminum. For me, rose gold is just about hassle free longevity of the color.

I fee the same. Rhodium can often look too white and shiny, and I prefer the aluminium’s aesthetic generally and also see it as matching what I saw on screen. I prefer the rose gold over copper as feel it will also look more similar to what we saw on screen and especially so over time. Rhodium doesn’t have the same appeal to me.

But I do love that you asked that question, and if budget and run rules let me get one of each.... haha

Going all out on the Rose Gold version would be amazing. But I'm more than happy with the polished aluminum.
