Vendor/supply/wife problem

A bit of advice from my fellow RPF guys is needed...

Although I did the research and made the call as to what my wife was to buy for my birthday, it was her decision. I came across what was a good buy in the junkyard. Now, the thing is, we were missing some parts and have contacted the seller, but his replies are few and far between, in fact I'm the one that chases him and tries to initiate a conversation. It seems to last a few days when all he has to do is look in another box for some extra parts. Now, me, I'm a patient guy and know that it's not the time of the year to hassle someone. My Wife however, paid for this item for my birthday and is irate, she's an accountant and the paypal transaction is about to end and she wants to report that we haven't received the entire kit as advertised, and is convinced that he's stalling until there is no recourse. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt as he's a well known person here on the RPF.

Payment was paid on Dec 2, I had to wait to get it for my Birthday on the 12th and my first PM about missing pieces was on the 14th after I looked at the "Instructions" provided (a bunch of random pics, not his fault though, it was from the original supplier). He said that he'd look through a box that had another one in it to see if they were in there on the 14th, no reply. I sent another message on the 24th and he said that they must be in a box but hasn't got back yet. My wife is VERY savvy, more so than I, but I don't want her to knee jerk and for me to lose my reputation here on the RPF.

No matter what I say, she'll claim on the 11th hour, it's her money after all, but it's my rep that could get damaged. I don't want to PM him again as I think he may think this is a threat, trust me it's not.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Kraig

Simple...let him know your wife's intentions. There is a deadline here and it has to be met. You are protecting yourself and no one can blame you.

I think you may be confusing reputation with self-respect.
You won't affect your rep here by being too passive but your self-respect will take a hit.

The seller needs to deliver. You need to do everything you must do to receive satisfaction.

Suggestions PM'd

Unless he's already sent the missing items. Postage this time of year is extremely slow, confused and erratic.

Sad to hear Kraig....hope it works out.....Nice to have a few beers with you and the missus yesterday to celebrate X-mas mate....

Respectfully,
Stuart

I myself have found postage to be great at this time of year. I have stuff flying over to me.

But it's not your reputation that's at stake. It's his. Well-known member here or not, there is a way to conduct yourself professionally and if he's not meeting that standard, it's not any fault of yours.

By this time, we ALL know that any PayPal transaction has a 45 day expiration date on it. If you can't fulfill the terms of your sale in those 45 days, then you KNOW what's coming.

I agree completely. The only other option I see might be to give you a bit of a financial rebate if said missing parts are not findable by him. But it still all has to take place by day 44 or so.

If it's getting down to the last minute, I say make a dispute through Paypal untill this is resolved. Let him know politely why you are doing that and if he has a grain of integrity, he'll understand.
Once you get all of your parts, then you can close the dispute and all will be right in the world.

I've been waiting over a month for a couple of missing pieces from someone here. I really wanted to finish this thing before Christmas, but that's shot.

I've been waiting for "missing parts" for my ATAT driver from Law for... 6 months... maybe more... saddly it's the nature of the hobby.
:(

Well,
In all honesty I have been looking for the parts and did indeed get a replacement. The minute I heard of the problem I contacted the original manufacturer of the MIM pulse rifle ( now long discontinued) for the parts. Now, keep in mind this kit is not in production and any leftover molds are in storage. It was taking too long so I dug around for my personal kit to take parts from. I finally located my kit and found his missing parts.
Kraig, I have sent you pm's telling you I was looking for the parts. I don't know why you have decided to "go public" with this but you do realize it is the holidays and in my line of work there is much overtime and of course family time too. I mean, it's only been a couple of weeks since you informed me of the problem, and it took a week or so for the original manufacturer to get back to me. I will send your parts out tommorow but remember, you are in another country so dont freak out if it takes a few days. Man. I wish I never would have gotten involved with these pulse rifles.

I don't remember him mentioning any names. Looks like you outed yourself.

Well being in another country can explain some of the differences in style of communication and does allow for some additional time delay.

As always communication is the key. A couple years ago I made a error by being terse with replies to a member in another country. Had it been Yank to Yank there would have been no problem but my brevity was not well received and I created a breech which to this day I regret. Ironically it also was over the Holidays and I placed expediency higher in priority than diplomacy. :(

My apologies Nickthsaberman, I avoided using any names, but yes it was our transaction that was of concern. I wish I'd known about you contacting MIM, it would've made more sense about the time delay, I thought you were just going to go through a box you had to look for the parts. Anyway, thanks for the PM, my wife will be pleased and I for once can use the "I told you so"...... actually it may be unwise of me to do that :lol

Thanks for all of your support everyone, it was nice to get up this morning to see your posts, but it's sad to hear that there are people who are missing parts from long ago transactions, I hope you all get them resolved soon.

Stuart, Man, it was great meeting you both. I look forward to having a beer with you again, thanks for the gifts too, they're AWESOME..

Anyway, the parts are being sent tomorrow, so that is a good thing.

Thanks again everyone.

Cheers,

Kraig

Kraig, you handled this situation with class.... much as I would expect from you. No matter what the outcome here you would not tarnish your reputation here whatsoever in my mind.

Nickthsaberman, you outed yourself bro. Kraig refrained form using your name and this could have all been water under the bridge. You can't blame him for being concerned, he went about this in a very tasteful manner IMO.

WOW, thanks DK, that's one heck of a compliment, I'm truly humbled.... :$

In all honesty though, I do sincerely apologize to Nickthsaberman, it wasn't meant as a call out. It was more of an "OH MY GOD, my wife's about to go ballistic and do something that I wish she wouldn't". She's seen me stung a few times in the last 12 months and she thought it was going to happen to her. Her bad vibes started when I discovered that some bits were missing and she's kind of been on a roll since. I personally thought that Nick was good for it and the last thing I would want is to do is cause him trouble with something like a Papal dispute, I've heard that those things can be a real pain in the butt.

Anyway, as I thought was going to happen, it's being resolved. :)

Cheers,

Kraig
