Venator Star Destroyer Build

Hello everyone I'm a modeling newbie and a long time lurker on the RPF, I have recently started work on the Revell republic star destroyer and i need your help. I want to add lights and extra detailing to the model.
I'm looking for a cheap supplier for fiberoptic cable and LEDs. I'm also looking for good reference pictures of the star destroyer in action. So far i've been following the work noumcea and his amazing RSD deatiling and lighting.
Any help is appreciated.

Your best bet for leds and such is a wholesaler like Electronic Goldmine (they have a flat rate of like 8.00 ship so it's best to buy a lot of stuff) or even ebay. you can get a lot of leds from china for under 5.00. i think i got 20 or so prewired leds for like 3.95 shipped from china. Takes a while to get here but never had any issues.

Nice choice of ship. I did the Star Destroyer AMT kit and added lighting and styrene detail to it.

Hey thanks for the link to that electronics site Wes R. I will definately be checking that site and ebay as well for LEDs.
Shadowlova your SD build looks neat with all of the lights added. Did your kit come with the fiber and lights? If not where did you buy your fiberoptic cable from?

I bought fibre optics from an electrical store called Jaycar here in Oz.I also got the leds there too. Ebay also has sellers with all the stuff you need too. I also have a Venator to do as well as a Galactica (modern series) and a Colonial Viper. :facepalm

Blackwidow2,

I am humbled that you are using my build as a reference. Although I have yet to complete the conning towers and top plate after quite a few months away from the bench, I am getting my mojo back now that the weather is warming up in my part of the world.

The majority of the fibres for the brim trenches need to be 0.25mm along with a few 0.5mm. I worked on the ratio of 4:1 so the 0.5mm fibres didn't wash out the detail of the trenches or the 0.25mm lighting. You need to be really patient in drilling the 0.25mm fibres as the drill bit(s) are very fragile.

Just have a look at the trial and error I went through to get the correct balance between each type of fibre.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know and hopefully I can steer you in the right direction. I am making up this build as I go along so some things may be different to what others want to portray.

Good luck.

Noumcea.

I did that as well. It's a very nice kit, comes with different sizes of fiber and some LEDs. From my understanding the controller card can support up to 24 LEDs as well.

I'm back, after a long break. I have been hard at work removing the windows on the bridges and the conning tower. I plan on replacing the windows with 1/20 Motorcycle radiator grill photo-etch set made by acu-stion.

I've been on the lookout for high quality screen captures of the venator. does anyone have some available that they would be willing to share?

Looking at those screen caps, this is a ship for which a fairly simple paint job will look fine. But if you like, you can go to town with various shades of gray and make something much more complex and screen accurate. Reminds me of Deep Space Nine, which is very similar in that way.
