Does anyone know where I can get reference for that? Is the Revell kit considered accurate?

Thanks for your help.

the prequel chronicles i know have good reference pics, i have 3 pics of the plan view but they are low rez, maybe the cut-away book has a entry too for pic reference. the revel model im not sure about.

I put together this ZIP file of screenshots.

You could also check here for any HD screencaps.

I'm not sure on the accuracy of the Revel kit. I think the very front tip of the ship is inaccurate. I've seen a couple people make more accurate parts, though they may have used the Incredible Cross-Sections book as reference. I'm not sure on the accuracy of that book.

Wow are you planning on building one? That would be amazing, I have the revell kit and I love the design, good luck :thumbsup

I've got the revell kit and I'm planning to light it up so I've made clear castings of the bridge pods. From the screencaps some of the detail is a little off but it seems reasonable for an injection moulded kit.

Jeff, I have a friend who worked on a couple of those; I can tell you the artists and writer tried very very hard for accuracy and internal consistency. However, there were many, many late changes and unfortunately, some things were forced on them by a new editor and from silly LucasFilm style guides and reference bibles. I don't think that likely included the shape of the nose though - that's the sort of thing that they would have been provided with absolutely unbeatable reference for.

Rel, can I pay you to do something else instead? The Venator...urrrrgh. :D

Cheers,
Martyn

Thanks guys! This is a great start, I'm having laser cutting done this week and this is as good a time as any to get the panels cut from plexiglass.

Here's what I had on hand & what a quick Google image search turned up.

Probably nothing new, but it's worth a shot.

Also, you might want to rename this thread something like 'Republic Star Destroyer', just in case :)

Mike, just so you know, that first picture in your ZIP isn't a Venator-class SD it's an Acclamator-class. The Acclamator-class are the ones seen in AOTC. The biggest different is the conning tower.

Richard Seriously man I need to start a payment plan with you... $50 a week - when I get enough to pay for something you send it... ;)

Well this isn't going to be a kit, it's a scratchbuild one off that I'll be working on now and then for myself because I like the ship so much. It's going to be 5' long.

Thanks

Sweet. I know you will show progress pictures. :)

You know, I hadn't even noticed the difference until I complied the pics :lol

Looks like the noses are a wee bit different, too.

Holly cow!, my modelling desk is 5' long... i'm drooling just imaginatinfg the thing! I sure will be looking for progress pics!

As far as i know, the Revell is accurate to my knowledge but i seriously lack in details... did you see the blogs of the guy who upgraded is Revell Venator for the celebration event in japan? http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/yatasith/folder/1144469.html?m=lc&p=1

This is by far my favorite class of star destroyer. How exciting.

The Japanese guy did a fantastic job on his upgrade. Some very small cuts there.
