So I found Van Lings company, Banned from the Ranch entertainment but I have ot ask what did he do at ILM to get "banned"?

I love gossip, this is a good decade or more old I'm sure but I'd love to know.

One of the magazines many years ago possibly Starlog had an interview.
Two of them where caught looking around in George's office and where banned from the Ranch for one year, hence the name.

Oh, you mean like Terminator, or his already planned sequels to Avatar?
Terminator. The last two sequels of Terminator didn't even involve him. And there's no denying T2 was something special.

In regards to Avatar, well, at least they're not prequels. It's hard to make a good sequel these days when you got all these prequels and remakes coming from every known block of the entertainment industry that making a reboot just two-three years after the original is now more preferred.

And who knows, maybe the sequel to Avatar will be the awesome thing we wanted out of the first Avatar. Cameron does a pretty good job with sequels. Both of his own series AND others.

And there's no denying T2 was something special.

Rubbish. Terminator 2 is a terrible sequel.
Where T1 was a great little movie, expertly crafted and aimed toward a certain audience, T2 is a lazy rehash drained of any sincerity and unashamedly has the biggest dumbest demographic in it's sights. Cameron was definitely milking that one for the bucks.

My turn to necro-post.......but I just had to. Van is a good friend of mine, and oddly enough, as contrarian as he can be at times - he WAS NEVER BANNED FROM THE RANCH. He joined the company after all this happened at ILM. And after the company had been formed as well......

Scott Ross goes into it in detail in his blog - VFX Business » Blog Archive » Banned From The Ranch
