As far as I know Up to this point all Vader commercials are LFL supplied costumes, at least where Vader is concerned.

Is this true?

I have only seen a few in recent years, the Spike ad, the BK spot for Ep III, Target, and Energizer. They appear to be the same costume.

Can anyone confirm? Are the Japanese spots for Sankyo the first appearance of a fan made Vader on licensed TV ads?

The adverts in the uk for woolworths used a guy from the Uk Garrison i believe.

Not sure about the us adverts though as i have never seen them.

cheers

Burger King used someone from Southern California Garrison. Spike TV VGA's used someone from Vegas. Pepsi was a Lucasfilm suit.

When we did the Donald Trump Star Wars Apprentice shoots, the Vader and the Chewie were LFL suits, the Troopers were supplied by the local 501st guys.

And I have to say, the Lucas Vader was not very impressive up close.

Woolworths

Poor old Woolworths - 30,000 voices crying out in terror then suddenly silenced...I still miss my local branch.:cry

Who did the suit in the Orange advert - another 501st suit I assume?

That's how it usually is here

Not only is it cool, but you also get paid.

:)
Sometimes it's paid
Most times we try to waive our pay in leiu of a charity donation or just for free
Sometimes we cannot due to Union rules for the show.
as for myself;
Bones TV show - charity (watch it on Feb 19th, TITLE "The Pincess & the Pear")
Epic Movie-Paid
Deal or no deal _Paid
Orange Commercial- Paid
G4TV- always free

It all depends on what LFL asks for & what the Production companies want.

I did not get paid, would not be right... My Pay went to Charity.

So there are 501st in production Commercials... Cool. Do we have a run down for sure what is Fan based and what is LFL?

yep that was indeed a Vader from our garrison (501st UK Garrison) in the Woolworths advert.....as were some stormies as well.

I personally don't see a problem with people getting paid for LFL-related commercial appearances. Note the word "commercial". A TV network, a fast food chain, LFL itself...someone is making money off of your participation and your hard work on the costume. Damn right you should be paid.

I guess stuff like G4 would be another matter, as I don't think that material was initiated by LFL. But sure, a business partner of LFL? Burger King didn't get into a contractural relationship with LFL out of love of the hobby. Monnnnney.

(Kudos for the charity donations, though!)

I remember the Vader from "The Apprentice"...mainly how bad it was. I seem to recall that the suit wasn't even quilted and it had a horrible sheen to it...hard to believe that was a LFL costume.

Has anybody here pics of this costume? Would be interesting to see.

I had no problem with getting paid. A lot of the time, we were treated like crap. Moved around like cattle, left standing for hours on end. Looked at like were being divas when we wanted a restroom break, and then questioned as to why it takes more than a minute for a Trooper to go pee. For the release of Battlefront 2, they had us line up in the pouring rain and wait 45 minutes at attention while they set up the cameras.

As said above, they were using our work to profit from with advertising. If they use you on TV, they have to pay you. It's the way it works.

I think the true Salad Days of being a Trooper was when Episode 3 was releasing. I think I was hired out for some kind of Burger King, Maxim Magazine, Star Wars Minis, Battlefront, or just a simple appearance in costume ad like 3 times a week.

They need to make a new Episode 3 so I can do it again. And so they can fix Episode 3.

:)
