Vader mask question

<div class='quotetop'>(Darth Detroit @ Oct 8 2006, 12:24 PM) </div>
Which mask and costume was used in this movie?

Was there a close up of the suit? I think that's when he's fighting with the T-Rex? I just seem to remember a long shot...

I remember it being a long shot as well. The kid opened and closed the cupboard very quickly, but you see a shot of Vader swinging the saber.

I thought there was a breif close up shot? :unsure

Yeah, the close-up was only in the trailer, the long shot was in the movie.

Frank Oz directed the movie, so he had ILM connections for the suit.

It's a fan-made suit. Looks like a GT box (smaller)...the leather is too shiny (looks like pleather) and the cape looks satin on the outside...likely a DP Deluxe helmet...paint scheme looks reversed...

That's not a fan made suit.
Helmet, armor, and chestbox are all real. Can't see enough of soft parts to confirm.
Most likely the same suit that they had Prowse wear for Rebel Assult 2 which was a mix of real and repro.

The armor and chestbox are smaller than they should be IMHO. (vader voice) "Don't make me" do comparisons against those screencaps :lol

EDIT: It's possible the cape is turned inside out, explaining it being shiny...the chain isn't right.

I don't care if you believe me or not.
That stuff is real. Can't say tell about the soft parts but if I could see them closer, I could tell for sure.
If you think Sithlord knows more about vader than me, then listen to him and forget what I said.

Seeing the movie was made in 1995, I would have to side with GINO. There could be various reasons why the cape is shiny. Mabey it dint show up on film as the flat color it is and they flipped it around. but seeing how GOOD Vader costumes were still somewhat rare in 1995 i would have to say its a tour suit borrowed from LFL.

I'm sure it would have been much more straightforward to borrow something from Lucasfilm with the Oz connection on the film.

It certainly looks genuine to me, particularly the hard parts.

I would dare say its a ROTJ mask.... or somthing compareable. This would be about the same time the MOM tour was going to kick off...

Now that I look closer I think Gino is right. I couldn't see the gunmetal on the top of the cheek before and the other parts seem pretty good. I'm so used to seeing those crappy Vaders in TV commercials, plus I'm sure Gino knows more about the ROTJ suit itself than I do since I've only done ANH/ESB. So they must have replaced the cape chain? Too bad the saber is not clearer :).

EDIT: Although the armor seems shinier than I would expect...

The costume you see Prowse wearing in that pic is from the set of the making of Rebel Assult 2.
It is also the costume used in making the cardboard standee (the one with the saber lit and pointing at the ground). It is a mix of screen used pieces and non screen used.

**Interesting little factoid:
The inner robe in that Prowse photo is not a screen used robe. Somehow it was pieced together with one of the exhibits overseas (the one with the resin cast ANH chestbox). I used to think that this was an actual ANH robe, but that turned out to be incorrect. You can identify this robe by the two horizontal seamlines on the front sashes just under the beltboxes. The original ANH inner robe didn't have seams there.

**Another little factoid:
The Prowse photo above is the only time post OT filming that we've ever seen screen used belt and beltboxes. Every belt and beltbox that has been on exhibit has NEVER been a screen used set.
