Vader, Lightsabers, Scans from 'Making of ESB Book'

Epic post on the sabers...nice observation on the Dagoba Vader suit...

Here's an example of processing in an attempt to minimize the otherwise distracting halftone pattern.

I scanned some photos from the new Making of The Empire Strikes Back book that I found interesting. I did not watermark these as they are not my photos and are publicly available.

Luke and Vader practicing the duel. Mark using the ANH shared Luke/Vader stunt, Prowse using the ANH V2 saber. You can tell Marks using the ANH stunt because you can see the white on/off button on between the grips, the old style Graflex knob on top and the Graflex glass eye on the bottom.

Different day, Mark is now using the V2 and Bob the shared ANH stunt (again, the white on/off visible )

Sorry what ........ a white button between the grips,
Pardon my ignorance, but can you tell me more?

Here it gets interesting.

I think the bladed saber Mark is using is the one that we thought was the ROTJ Vader saber for so long, with the black midband and black control box.

The top and bottom are Graflex, but the midband and control box seem to be the black ones we all know.

Could the black band be tape to caover the clampt, only to make it more comfortable in one's palm?

I could imagine that the ammount of practice they did and takes, that handling the Graflex clamp would eventually start hurting on's hands.

this is a question i had on my mind forever.... does anyone know what they used for the stunt blades in ESB? Were they aluminum tubes? Or were they wooden dowels like they used in ANH??

Sorry for digging up a nearly month old thread, but to the OP: do you happen to have a hi-res scan of this picture?

This has to be one of the coolest Vader pictures I've ever seen.

Thanks for posting James. How do you like the book? I've been thinking about trying to get it...

Does it mention anything about what the saber's blades were made of? I've always been curious if they used wood, aluminum, etc...

Not saber related, but did anyone notice, that Han is carrying a ROTJ -stunt!?- blaster in his holster (not 100% sure about Luke´s weapon but it also seems to be a ROTJ)!?

You can see it in the very first full-page picture of Luke, Leia and Han.

I'm sorry for resurecting this thread, but would be possible to get the images in a higger resolution? Also there are some pics which are not avaiable anymore...

I should just pick up this book... too many great photos. I loved the Making of SW. Quite an excellent read, too.

You should. Both books are amazing reads (with great pics) and a must for any SW fan. Can't wait for the inevitable ROTJ one in 2013.

I don't know if it has been suggested yet, but I think we can clearly see two different Graflex Stunt Lightsabers here.

Going to quote pics from James Kenobi and Roy here -

Since the red buttons can easily be swapped, they're not a good marker. the Bunny Ears cannot be easily taken out however. #1 has Bunny Ears that have been snipped short, broken or trimmed.

Gaffer tape on clamp, short knurled button, not convinced those are hard plastic grips.

and #2 with intact bunny ears - no gaffer tape on clamp

it would appear this one is #2 - and IS that T track? I'd like opinions! (I want to build one like this soon!)
