vader Helmet

I am looking for suggestions on where to get an affordable Vader Helmet. I dont really care about what Movie it is accurate from. I am starting to make a costume and want to start with the helmet. I dont need a $400 helmet but I do not want a don post store bought one either. I would prefer a unpainted cast really. I can paint it. Thanx for your help

I'd recommend the recent Rubies helmet...I've seen some really nice buildups/modified version on this forum lately...just do a search for Rubies vader and I'm sure you'll see some threads/posts...I think you can get the helmet for under $100...

I don't think you can get an accurate helmet for under $400, even in kit form, except for bad DP DLX recasts. Only the Rubies Supreme is below that amount and it requires a lot of work to really shine and the dome is pretty crappy.

Good luck with your search though. :thumbsup

Thanx I am not picky to have it screen accurate like alot of you guys who look at things under a microscope. That is why I can paint it to be accurate and that is good enough for me as long as your average star wars guy thinks it looks good. Is the Rubies better then the don post

Well, to be honest and in my own personal opinion, the Rubies Supreme plastic helmet sucks - but if you got the skills, it can be made to look good. Well, even with a more professional paint job and no modifications it will look better than out of the box, but I will still hold the DP Classic Action helmet higher in regards to the Rubies for the sole reason that it looks better even though the features are slightly softer - but the price is higher and it is more difficult to find. Also, the DP CA needs far less mods than the Rubies Supreme.

I wouldn't recommend either the Don Post or the Rubies fiberglass helmets as they cost too much for what their quality should demand... and they are a lot harder to fix.

So, to answer your question: no, the Rubies is not better than the Don Post, but it is easier to find and cheaper.

True, the DPCA is a better helmet BUT costs triple or quadruple the Rubies. For someone who doesn't care either way the Rubies is the better choice. It does require a ton of work though. Even if you think right now that you don't care about how it looks, eventually you will and you will want to mod it.... trust me on this.

I found my Rubies to be a fun project, it was actually my first project and the first Vader helmet I ever owned. I would like to go back someday and do another one. It's a great project and if you take your time it can produce amazing results.

Makes sense... and since the Rubies helmets are offered as low as $60 or less on eBay it could be a good first choice for a helmet to eventually upgrade or mod later.

Yes, that is a Rubies Supreme helmet, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper from other sellers on eBay or at online stores. Anything above $70 is too much, imo. :)

Im with you there. You can do much better than $70. $50 is easily attainable.

I aggree with the others here the don post is by far the better helmet but pricy too. If you are planning on wearing the helmet for any length of time I suggest a nice plastic or vinyl bucket that is light weight to save your neck. Go out buy a cheap rubbies and mod it to make it better and you will be happy, and im sure any fan will recognise your costume as vader. Only the picky 'experts' will know the difference....

The casual fan would be blown away by a Rubies out of the box. ;)

I've heard that too... but also "horror stories" of Rubies Vaders accidentally ending up next to a fan-made Vader... uuuuugh... that would be bad. :confused

SPend the money and buy a NICE mask. You wont regret it. Buying mask a that youre not going to be happy with is like buying a Corvette with a 4 cylinder.
