Vader Chest Armor Questions

Sorry if this has been brought up before. but I'm new to the forum.

I'm building a ESB Vader and need help with the chest armor please.
I'm 6'3" and need a larger size chest armor. I read that GT and maybe others made a couple of sizes. Is that true? Are there other makers out there that have the "Prowse" sized armor?

And lastly, what is the right color grey/silver to go with the black?

Thanks in advance.

David

I used Duplicolor Gun-Metal Gray. It seems to be the consensus on the Sith Lord Detachment Boards. I would also pose that same question over there.

I used the same color for my Rubies helmet and I am pleased with it.

In terms of who makes the best armor, I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. The GT stuff is ok but it is not Prowse sized, its much too small. I personally like the GH armor the best, it is generally considered the best available armor among us Vader nuts. :)

Thanks for the color info.

just so everyone knows, apparently in some wally worlds the actual screen used paints are available in the model building sections in 4 oz spray cans. its from valspar, the original paint supplier, and its marketed under kustom kolors. they have the black pearl, which is the grey color used in the movies.

i havent found any around my area yet, but someone did, and posted a link to the site where you could order from also.

Correct about the Valspar paint, that's what I've heard too... except not for ANH, where other paints were used.

Regarding armor... then it basically comes down to what fits you, 'cause not all can wear the large Prowse sized armor well.

Is the Duplicolor Gun Metal Grey accurate for the grey sections of the Vader ROTS chest armor?

No, Valspar Black Pearl.

Thanks.. In my experience though "model" paints are definitely less rugged than car paints and thus not suitable for something like Vader chest armor that will see some handling. I would be reluctant to use it for that reason.

Car paints on the other hand, like Duplicolor's gun metal grey, are far more rugged and hard and should have far greater resistance to marring and scuffs.

Would the Duplicolor gun metal grey, if not perfectly accurate, be reasonably accurate in terms of reproducing the color of the grey sections of Vader's chest armor as seen in ROTS ?

huzz, its the exact same paint. just sold in the small cansd for modelers.

if you find it, its the right stuff.

and if your goin for the rots accuracy, then nope, DP isnt close. go to TCSS under my brotherhood of sith thread and look for the pics wolverine posted of the black pearl valspar paint he shot on his FG armor.

its alot darker than DP gunmetal paint.

The valspar Black pearl and Galaxy gray are both far and away darker than the Duplicolor.

That is why I plan to conduct my paint test once I gather a good amount of paints that some folks say are accurate.

And pardon my ignorance but what is TCSS? I would like to go and see that thread you mentioned. Thanks.

Thanks Guys.

My concern though is that the Duplicolor paints are really quite rugged. If I were able to find the Valspar stuff, I would probably try to find a Duplicolor paint that closely matched it so I would have an accurate color and a rugged finish. I just think that using model paints for something like this is the wrong way to go.

I found the paints on their website. They are autobody paints.

Thanks. Can you provide the link to the section of the Valspar site where you found that?

Cheers,
Dave

Concerning the Chest armor. I personally love The GH Armor :thumbsup anything else IMO just won't do, and it's worth every penny...................

GH is best because it comes from an original. And I hope I don't start a war here but isn't the JB 'related' to the GH? :angel
