V Visitor Laser Gun Replica Prop - Idealized Version - Development & Improvements

I concur.. Looks great.. i would have said the yellow base version, which is what yours looks like.. Bravo, coming out nicely..

That Mighty Microcontroller look pretty big? (and does it even have Audio output?) (hard to tell the site isnt even up and renders arent a real indication)

Rebel Agent already has the audio/led animation(s) figured out.. (Arduino based) and it turned out great!>

Yes, the Mighty Microcontroller does have sound out, also servo control, and can control many, many LEDS.

The creator is a Forum member "SSwift" The MMC is pretty small, I think it's origins is a Ghostbuster PKE meter, dimensions are the size of a credit card, and designed to fit in a shoe polish box.

Eventually I'll do a costume that requires one.

I have the "cheap" white eBay one... I think I read on here a while back that it wasn't even to scale with the actual prop. When I took it out of the box and gripped it I noticed my hand didn't even fit in it all the way.

Is the one you're building "full scale"... as in "will fit an adult male's hand"?

I'm glad you're moving forward on this.

I do have a question to you and anyone else.
The one I have is obviously unpainted and I noticed a few in other threads after being painted had a painted look. By that I mean a lot of the clean/sharp edge detail gets lost in the process. What's a good way to keep it look as sharp as it does before painting it?

Rebel.Agent... will you be selling these, and if so will they be molded in black or sold painted?
I'm totally interest (price pending as someone else said). If the sound is a match with the one from the show that'll be awesome. This has always been my favorite sci-fi gun.

Can you 3D print these in color?
Any chance you have the metal 3D printer? How awesome would it be to have an aluminum version of this? :)

Anyway... you're attention to detail is definitely your greatest strength and weakness. But I totally understand... i just hope you keep moving forward with this.

Thanks again.

Wow, thanks. Yes, this gun is close to 1:1 scale. Probably will be offering them in the Junk section. Still looking for the right fx sound. Will have to extract it from the DVDs I guess. I will be printing it in any color and doing molds to cast it in resin. Metal 3D printing will be hysterically expensive for this. And thanks again for notice my attention to detail. Yes It is a weakness after all.

Okey, removed old prototypes photos and created an official album to store them. Here is the screen used gun that this model was based on:

and the final prototype:

the handle will be hollow to allow electronics insertion as well the top box:

Will be doing some measurements this night to know where and how I am planning to install the electronics, so I will do the speaker holes. Keep you posted guys, and thanks for your patience and support.

Without amplifier, you won't be able to hear anything in open spaces, for example a CON. WTV output power is a few mw only, insted of 3W per channel from the PAM.

I'm working on things like tricorders, so no big audio needed.

I may need to pick some up these up.

Appreciate the info!

Hysterical... but awesome. ;)

How sturdy are the 3D prints?
I know with rapid prototyping they've come a long way and aren't nearly as brittle/fragile... they can "print out" usable parts these days.

Do you own the machine that you're using to "print" the mold?
Would you be able to "print" a black, one-piece, non-functional version to sell?

Sorry for all the questions... I get a little excited about these things.

Awesome.
Are you self taught on the 3D design or is that part of your job?
My brother in law owned a rapid prototyping machine and did that sort of thing where people would send him the files and he would "print" them out.

I am going to order the same stuff as well to play with.

I went with a Adafruit Waveshield 'mutant' board as my solution... but this is nice as it can play MP3 as well...

what ya got planned for yours Dave?
