Uzi 9mm Airsoft Conversion

For a good while, I've been wanting to make/own an Uzi 9mm, the same gun featured in Bad Taste, ironically that gun was made by Peter Jackson himself from scratch. I bought a Well D91 UZI electric airsoft replica last year before Christmas to use as a base. It was £35. The dimensions were pretty spot on, but the main body was just a two piece moulding missing some of the details of the real thing. I also bought a real Uzi magazine and inert 9mm bullets for £30, as I can't make anything better than real and they were cheap enough. I gutted it leaving a shell, then added various bits to replicate the original. You can see some progress and final pics attached.

I'm pretty pleased with the final result. The paint effects make it look real enough.

That is a great job of rebuilding. I always liked the Uzi 9mm. This has turned
a toy into a fantastic reproduction of the real thing. Good work.

Great work on the paint job. What technique did you go with? Black paint + graphite powder?

No, I sprayed it with Hycote Bodyshop Satin Black Spraypaint, then used Liberon Iron Paste (Iron Paste: Our Products Metal Treatments | Liberon wood cares) to give it a flat metal look (warm it a little with a blowtorch or heatgun, then drybrush it on, and buff it with a duster to a shine), then used Pewter Rub 'n Buff (Rub 'n Buff Pewter) to pick out the worn highlights.

I tried Graphite powder a while back, and found you have to give it a clearcoat over the top otherwise it wears off really easily, and that dulls the effect quite a bit. The Iron Paste gives a very similar finish, but is more hard-wearing. This is a slightly different process I've used in the past too - Metallic Effect Painting Process - TheKnightsOfSumeria.com, which I used to paint this prop; EvilDeadChainsaws.com 2020 AOD Mechanical Hand - TheKnightsOfSumeria.com

That looks terrific.
While not a prefect firearm, I used these back in the 70's and always liked them for their size and efficiency.

Great upgrade mate
