USCM armour advice.

Well, I think I'm SW'd out and am about to focus my efforts towards the ALIEN quad. First up is a USCM suit. I'm a member of a couple of boards that focus on this subject, but since I am more familiar with the RPF, I thought I'd ask here.....

What Armour do you have? What are it's pro's? I've searched on the other forums, but nobody has done a comparison. I'd LOVE Terry English armour, as it's the real stuff, but at $7.5k-ish it's outta my range. I'm leaning towards Spatcave, but MAA looks nice too and then there's ....... AAAARRRGHHH, now do you understand why I'm asking?

Please post pics too, I just love looking at USCM troopers, especially Terry E's.

Cheers,

Kraig

Edit - Just thought I had better change TE to Terry English, so not to confuse anyone.

Say it isn't so Kraig . :cry

Only kidding bro. Love the Marines. Good luck.

Cheers , Niko.

I would also be interested in seeing other options aside form Terry English, and maybe even a comparison between them. This is a kit that I would realy like to do down the road.

Hey Niko :) I'm sure my condition is only temporary :lol But I do love the USCM armour and the ALIEN movies, so I thought I'd move in that direction for a while. Also, my wife said she wanted to buy me some USCM armour for my birthday, so I'm doing some leg work before she shells out the money.

Thanks for posting the link to your Armour JP05, that is a beautiful set, and it's the real deal too, truly awesome.

Well, here's my thoughts on the different ones out there.....

Spatcave-

Made from thick HIPS, ready to wear and comes in a package with a real steel helmet and PR. But by Spatcave's own admission, it's a sculpted armour, using reference pics etc and only about 80% correct.

Steel Dreams-

Made from .50 ABS, nice pulls and based off Hicks armour, but I'm not known for being gentle on my armour so I think I'd break it pretty quickly. Can also get it assembled and painted if required.

MAA-

Once again, pulled from a real suit, super sharp, but made of fiberglass. See above statement on my abuse of armour and how I'd probably crack or even break this stuff.

Terry English-

Perfect... Made from hand beaten Aluminium by the guy who made the movie suits. Down side is too expensive at over $9500.00 AUD. But in reality, fairly priced, considering how it's made and who makes it.

That's my research so far, any comments or advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Kraig

Exactly right, but it's only $700, a pretty damned good package price and that's who I'm leaning towards going with. But I thought I'd ask here, just in case someone knows of something better.

Cheers,

Kraig

Nothing personal against Spat, but I've never been impressed with the paintjob. It just looks like 3 colors of spraypaint sprayed on. No where near accurate. If you go with his you may want to consider re-painting it yourself.

Cool, thanks very much for your advice :) I'll start looking into the correct colours.

Cheers,

Kraig

My TE Hicks armor.

Spat's armour is fantastic, for what you pay.
Having compared it to T.E. armour "in the flesh", I was pretty impressed at the accuracy - As was Terry ;)

True, the paintjob isn't accurate - But considering the time it takes to do an accurate paintjob, Spat's prices would go up by a case or two of beer if he was to offer the service.

Here's some pics of my set.

Accurate paintjob ( Cheers again Jedifraz ;) ), with some graffiti.. finally.:

WOAH GB, that's some sweet armour. :love and made by the man himself too. I'll never tire of looking at his work. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks for your pics too Rev, they're the best I've found of Spat's armour. Frankly, looking at them has made my mind up who to go with. Also the fact that TE was impressed is amazing to say the least.

Looks like Spatcave's got an order coming his way. :)

Thanks everyone for your input into this thread, but, by no means let it close. Keep posting your USCM pics, I still love looking at them, as I'm sure many do.

Cheers,

Kraig

I meant to mention another plus point to Spat's armour...
It's damned comfy.

It flexes very well, and I'm confident ennough in it now that I've got no problem getting in and out of cars... sitting in KFC on hard chairs, ansd the like.
At first I was worried it'd break or at least crack if I tried anything like that.

The helmet weighs a ton, BTW... and i find it syays in place a bit better if you wear a baseball cap backwards under it.
I also added a chin strap after a couple of "Drunk girl attack" moments...

I'd go with Spat. It's a good price and made out of good material. Easy to repair if it gets a hole knocked in it and flexible.
He's a great guy and will help you get what you need.

MAA's armor is a recast of a recast of a custom built TE set. It may take you awhile to actually get what you paid for and you might still have a piece or two missing. If you have any questions about his armor, you'll more than likely be directed to a source that's not even involved with it's creation (meaning, someone else who bought a set and assembled it himself). MAA seems unable, unwilling or uninterested in talking about his own product once he has sent it off.

Sweet armour Treadwell, I remember drooling over the pics in your thread back in Feb, VERY nice :)

Thanks for the input everyone, we're going to go with Spat, just not sure which package yet. I bought a MIM Pulse Rifle in the JY a few days ago, haven't heard back with total cost including shipping (express with tracking) yet, so it's not confirmed. I hope it is mine though, I want to fill it with Hyperdyne's electronics eventually, almost impossible to do with a resin one with no moving parts.

Thanks again everyone :thumbsup

Cheers,

Kraig

I'm getting a Spat set next summer if everything goes well. He's a great guy, & has always been reliable in my experience.

I really need to update my pix but here is something to look at.
