Anyone recognise these? The two flat squares below the round V8 part. Notice there are faint horizontal lines.

how big are they? I don't know much about these props but I wonder if they could possibly be the same as the vents used on the Vader reveal helmet?

These are not the ones that were used on the VR.
They´re much smaller, since the base for the commlink is a hengstler counter ;)

Here's my WIP. All real parts apart from the scratch built mystery parts on top (the part that appears on the ATAT costume and other Rebel comlinks).

I'm just using two rubber 'feet' at the moment in place of the unidentified square parts I mentioned earlier.

Thanks to Coz for the antenna. Its not perfect but will do for now :)

Anyone got an idea of what to paint it with? Looks like gunmetal? But has a strange texture to it. Its funny, but Clutch once re-created this finish by accident :p

Looking very nice Marcus.

I'm also curious as to what the blue pieces are (on your model). As far as the painting/texture it looks a lot like a hammered-metal finish, maybe "Hammerite" from a spray can. I don't have any samples of the finish but have seen it done on a couple of metal items; they dried looking like a dark nickel finish and similar pitting. Might be worth a look.

I agree about the hammered textured paint.

Looking great Markus...I guess you have a spare antenna for me, right ;) .?

Markus

I'll put Hammerite on my shopping list, thanks Andy and Markus.

Just a tip: The size of the features of most textured paints depends on how thick each coat is and how many coats you paint. Well, I know at least that this is true for crinkle and crackle finishes. I would try a few different variations on scrap surfaces first before painting the prop.

Well, I've had the V8 parts of years, and I've wanted to this prop for a wile now. So, I'm lookking to learn all I can, and to see what others have done.
