U.S.S Cygnus 1/700 scale… a study in insanity

Short post… these are my Sci Fi model poker chips. Actual images are a bit clearer.

Good idea painting different parts different metallics whether it is accurate or not. When it’s not lit it really needs some tonal variation to not look flat. The only other thing that I would suggest is making the windows a frosted white that’s visible as white or at least brighter than the whole when the lights at off. Again, to not make it look like a solid black object. I imagine the lights are off most of the time.

Thank for the input Mark2000, I’m happy with the way I did the windows of the ship. The flat coat that was applies did mimic what was seen in the ‘Palomino fly under’ scene in the movie. And it’s too late to try any type of upgrade on that front. Any work that I’ve done to the model is done as it sits… no laying it on it’s side, it’s not coming off of the stand. Fortunately, there are only four pipes running the length of the Center Section of the ship. I had to lay on my back to paint them. Here are some closeups (after I busted out my backdrop paper) showing Cygnus in ‘lights out’ mode. This has been a tricky model to shoot pictures of because of its size.

Well, Command Tower is now properly complete. I’m glad I secured an extra pallet of antennas when I made my final parts purchase. Unfortunately, I had opened the tower holes when I fitted the brass posts in the initial build. The yellow piece of paper in the pictures is a prop for holding the last antenna until the glue dries. I need to darken up the bottom of the Docking Elevator medallion, and one more look over the model and just call it done. Nationals is a new experience for me ( if I failed to mention that earlier, we’re going to Hampton, VA) and this will be my first “Top Three” show. There should be more entries than Wonderfest (1080 entries), and I am a realist. Cygnus will get a lot of attention but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the Gamebody models there. We will see. I’ll discuss the Gamebody offering soon…Soviet Cygnus.
