I've been a long time lurker of this site, but only recently made an account to share some progress on my most recent undertaking: Midna from Twilight princess!
I'm using a lot of new methods and materials on this costume, so it's a bit of a crash course (my favorite kind of course). Right now, I'm waiting on some materials in the mail, so I've been sewing like a madwoman in the meantime.
Midna is a longtime favorite of mine. I want to do her justice and create this costume to the best of my ability.
Reference from wikia page:

Midna's cape was pretty intimidating to pattern out, since it has SO much fabric with just outer seams. essentially, a gigantic bag. I used flannel-back satin for the lining because A. it has very little stretch on the bias and B. the flannel side would stick to the suiting twill while pinning/sewing. After cutting out the pieces, I hung them on a door frame for several hours, to allow the fabric to stretch along the bias. The edges were then serged, then finished off with bias tape. Not a necessary, addition, but I really didn't want the fabric to bubble out like a saggy duvet cover. I think it gives it a nice finished look, and for this project, I think it looks better than a top stitch would.
Not ironed yet, but after two packs of bias tape! (I went with a more greenish lining than this particular reference)

And for the back (it's obv not finished in the pic)... This is before outlining with black paint, so the edges are a little rough. For the record, I DO NOT recommend contact paper for stenciling on anything with a slight texture (my stencil was a nightmare). I used Jacquard Neopaque in white, and it worked like a dream. it soaked into the texture beautifully, and I only needed two coats.

The bodysuit was dyed using iDye Poly in a half packet of 459 (turquoise) and a dash of 462 ( silver grey). I needed that much dye to obtain this color on 4 yards of 36" wide spandex.

I decided to go with a paler blue, since I feel that it will photograph better than a darker grey-ish blue.
Last but not least, some progress on her crown pieces. I may make resin casts of these later on, because I really don't like thermoplastic for jewelry pieces. I prefer to use it for just reinforcing stuff. not to bash on anyone who does use it for such, I just don' like how bulky it tends to look on my projects.

I hope to post more progress soon! Thank you for reading!
