Hey, just wondering how to give wood a brass finish. Would like to try my hand at building a steampunk raygun and have some ideas, but they mostly consist of wooden parts...
Depending on the design, you could also try forming thin brass shim over the wooden parts? If you go with any paint type of finish, then obey Sporak. Sand, putty, primer, wet sand, repeat!
I've had good sucess using metallised resin , following the advice given already - sand the item really smooth almost glasslike ,then I used 'Micro Marks' electroplating kit - works very well as there is enough metal in the mix, to hold the plate finish or if you don't want togo the resin route , Rub & Buff metallic paints like Humbrols Metalcoat will work quite well although you may have to apply severalcoatsto get the finish you want
