"try reading books instead of burning them"

Here is the only part that I made, the grail diary, and was the third item I had after the Stetson and the Raider Jacket.

It started with a black cover and was repainted with brown latex paint. All the pages were hand drawn and then stained with coffee.

It doesn't have any of the great inserts that others have done.
At a minimum, I'd like to have a tablet rubbing before the discovery of the tomb.

That is what I posted about my grail diary back in 2012. By today's standards, I'd only rank it as a fair reproduction after looking at the Raiders and Club Obi Wan. Since I used an existing notebook, the final diary is only about 80% scale but it's all handwritten so I am not eager to recreate it.

I did make some of the inserts that I am lacking. I still don't have a tablet rubbing. Tried to make one out of parchment paper but the "rubbing" rubbed off and I haven't gone out to get an appropriately sized piece of tracing paper.

But all the inserts burst the cover of the notebook.

Thankfully, I have a large piece of leather leftover from my TFA uniform

and printed off some fancy paper to glue inside the replacement cover.

While sub-scale, my diary has gone from fair to better.

As you said, a leather notebook just feels and smells so much better.

The way I put the cover on is counter to what I have read about making books. I hot glued the interior spine of the notebook directly to what became the spine of the leather cover.
The leather is really heavy. I bought it for leggings but made a holster extension with the original so I had to work the interior edge so the covers would fold better.

After pressing the cover and interior pages with a clap. I used 3M spray adhesive to adhere the fancy paper to the first and last page of the notebook and the leather. I didn't expect any runoff but just in case I used pieces of parchment paper inside of the folds so nothing got stuck together.

Where did you get the pic of young Indy with Henry? I've tried to find it in the paper props forum and have been unsuccessful in my googling.

PS. "It tellsh me that gooshe shtepping morons like yershelf should try READING booksh inshtead of BURNING them!" is one of my favorite lines from any movie ever.

I really wish I had the information available today when I first started the Diary back in 2009. The previous images are based on the idea that the final part of the grail quest as annotated at the end of the movie.
The influence was a collection of Marvel comics, screen caps, a 3d map of the grail temple and a page from Club Obi Wan.

Club Obi Wan was the greatest source of Diary inserts that I have found. Anyone planning to make a Diary I highly recommend joining.

Edit: Sorry! Have no idea why the photos are upside down. Thanks..... they are the right way round on my camera and the hosting site.

Awesome, thanks.

The diary looks great, I like the quest trials pages. I only have a hero diary right now, but at some point down the line I want to add a story version too.

Here you go! Now I did not make this and don't take credit for it.

I wish I could say that my diary was a story version but it is not. I had the game diary but didn't open the diary with the vision pages.

When I discovered how much was missing from my diary and how out of order it would have been to draw the pages.... Just came up with the solution of drawing the pages as inserts and treating them as if the diary was falling apart and some pages were falling out due to age. Now that doesn't work with the new leather cover but eventuality it will.
