Trooper / Vader differences...

I've been a member of these boards for a good few years now, and have even had the chance to look at a few different Vader and TK buckets up close.

But I have to confess, when folk post pics of a collection of helmets, saying "This is the ANH, this is the ROTJ and this is an ESB." - All I see is pretty much the same helmet repeated a few times.

What stumps me more is folk going on about how much they hate the ROTS Vader, and how the symmetry is all wrong as the wrong side was chosen to mirrorflip...

*Blink*

You wot?
Looks fine to me.

So if any of you bucketheads are bored, or feeling helpful - A pictorial explanation of just what yer all arguing about would be a great thing to amuse me ( And, I suspect, others ) on these cold winter nights...

Thanks.

Yep those are great guides and really are beneficial. As everything with enough study it takes more time to know your helmets straight off. Not just the screen used but the fan mades additionally. This takes commitment IMO and to really be an "expert" it's somthing that needs interest and dedication just like anything.

I believe there are only a very select few that have that type of knowledge whether it's about Vader or Troopers. I find no matter how much you know you still learn all the time :thumbsup

:lol ya it can get a bit thick at times here I must admit :D

All you have to know is ANH is the best either in regard to Vader or TK :p :D

I'm with Thomas there. ANH is the best, that's a good foundation.

Again, there are plenty of threads here that will show you the differences as well as starwarshelmets.com. Between these two resources you should be able to get a good foundation.

The funniest thing to me is that had the original vader helmets been perfectly symmetrical and the ROTS one "wonky" and "lopsided" people would be complaining endlessly about how sloppy the ROTS prop makers were. :lol

You know its the truth.

I would call it a complete disregard for continuity/visual consistency.
Just my opinion.

"A good foundation" - Almost makes it sound like like a university subject.

Hey maybe I could get some funding and start a course. We've had Beatles and Soap Opera courses over here so why not?

Man,. three years of getting drunk and looking at Star Wars props and costumes...its a dirty job but someone has to do it... :lol ;)

The more types of Vader and TK helmets there are in the films the more Lucasfilm has to sell, it's great marketing. Hey, if there was just one kind of Vader helmet, fans would only have to buy one, now how much money is there in that? Same thing with the DVD's, how many versions are there now? But, then again spending all our money and time studying SW stuff is fun, and what else is there to do in life anyway?

Actually... since LFL only has RotJ-style licensed Vader helmets (except now with the MR RotS Vader)... they really haven't exploited that market very well, imo.

And I still think the ROTS helmet is great. :)
Someone else mentioned that no-one ever had a problem with the lack of continuity with the sabers through the OT so why the big deal here?

Have looked at those other sites, still unclear as to what "wonky" means.
[/b]

It just means skewed, non-symmetrical. Basically if you draw a line down the centre of the helmet, the Left side is different from the Right. If you take one side and flip it over (so it is symmetrical) the helmet looks odd in much the same way as if you flip a human face and make it look symmetrical it looks "wrong".

Bigbaddaddyvader - I too really like the RotJ Stormtrooper helmet and wish someone would do a really nice replica of it - we've seen enought ANH's to last a lifetime.

What would constitute a "really nice replica" of the RotJ TK?

yeppers.

and the ANH versions of both are the easiest to spot. well there are lots of discrepensies, but the major things on finished helmets are...

ANH TKs have a grey mouth.

ANH vaders have a really small triangular chin cut out...

thats it.
