TRON: Uprising Series Discussion

I hope they announce the Blu-ray for Uprising and maybe Tron 3 at SDCC.

I'd be surprised if they did, as I understand it Disney doesn't do anything at ComicCon these days, not since they started D23. I think that they do most, if not all, of their announcements and stuff at D23 these days.

You sure? How can Disney not do anything for SDCC? They own Marvel. Are you saying no Marvel properties will be officially represented at ComicCon?

Possibly. I haven't been to ComicCon myself in quite a few years but last I heard Disney has had little to no presence there at all since starting up D23. A good example of this is the Avengers which came out right around the time that Disney started D23 or maybe a little after, anyway, from what I've heard they had a booth all set up and everything but nothing was there except for a big fancy and empty display/booth with no representatives from Marvel or Disney and, as far as I know, no panels either. This was the same with Wondercon as well, there were no official Disney panels and I don't recall any big Marvel panels either and given that it was in March they really could have had something there to promoted their upcoming summer movies like Iron Man 3 which, I don't think, had come out yet. So yeah, it seems that Disney is holding everything back and saving it for D23; probably because just theme park related news and Disneyana merchandise weren't enough of a draw and they probably also felt that they needed more than just Disney/Pixar moivies added to the mix too.

Although panelists are still being kept a secret, Walt Disney Pictures has just announced that they'll be bringing their next two Marvel Studios feature films, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, to Comic-Con International San Diego for panels on Saturday, July 20.

Set for release on November 8, Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel's Thor and Marvel's The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, meanwhile, arrives April 4, 2014 and picks-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Still waiting to see if there is anything Tron related though . . .

That's kind of surprising given how little Disney has had to with Comic-Con since creating D23 and with the big no show that The Avengers was at Comic-Con when it came out. I guess they're actually letting Marvel promote their movies at Comic-Con again; they probably realize that as much as they want D23 to be a big thing they just can't beat Comic-Con for the sheer amount of publicity and buzz it can generate for a movie. They're also probably not getting the number of fan-boys (and girls) at D23 that they probably hoped to get by holding their Marvel stuff in reserve for D23 only, I'm sure that most fans rather spend their money on Comic-Con where they get much more bang for their buck rather than limit themselves to just Disney/Marvel stuff at D23. The big question will be whether or not Disney will do any promoting of their new Star Wars stuff at Comic-Con this year and next or will they try to hold that stuff back for D23 only as well.

Is anyone going to SD Comicon who could ask/keep their eyes open for news?

Get me a ticket and a place to stay and I'll gladly go and keep an eye out for you. :D
