TRON: Uprising Series Discussion

So, I just returned from the Dallas SciFi con, where Bruce Boxleitner was one of the guests. While getting his autograph I mentioned how much my son and I love watching Tron: Uprising and said we have our fingers crossed it won't be cancelled. Sadly he gave a slight chuckle and said we better cross more than just our fingers. :(

It doesn't look good. :cry

Hey! I was there too!

I didn't even want to bring up the matter for fear of the answer. :(

Finally picked up the soundtrack. I wish it was complete. It is missing that opening cue from the Identity episode. Who knows what else. But the soundtrack is very good. I think it might be a bit better than Tron Legacy's soundtrack. They didn't have to include the inspired bits and the end. Although, one or two of those tracks are cool.

I hope this show will get announced on Blu-ray soon. I don't get why Disney has this love/hate thing going on with Tron stuff. But I assume more Tron 3 news will come up when the director starts promoting Oblivion. Then they'll release the Blu-ray.

Sadly Disney has no idea what people want. I was disappointing in Legacy because it barely had any tron in it. We've gotten more Tron out of the Kingdom Heart video games.

Its a big shame that they cancelled TRON season 2. For myself i discovered TRON:uprising 3days ago and now im done all episodes. Great show, really great.

This explains the status of TRON: Uprising and any future TRON tv development.

Taken from the article, "How TV has Replaced Animated Films as Disney’s Biggest Brand Ambassador" posted on March 15, 2013:

Disney X D’s visually impressive and pricey animated series “Tron: Uprising,” based on the films, struggled to attract the channel’s core viewers of 6- 11-year-old boys. The series’ tone appealed more to an older audience that isn’t yet watching the channel.

“It did well with many segments of the audience, but missed some of the key demos,” DeBenedittis says. “It’s one of those examples where if the bull’s-eye is the Disney brand, and you go into the other rings, you take some risks in missing the magic of the bull’s-eye. (“Tron: Uprising” took the right risk and we created a show to be so proud of, but it hit the secondary ring of the target.”)

With a sequel to “Tron: Legacy” in the works at the studio, Disney Channels plans to eventually bring back “Tron,” but it may not be returning as the same show, DeBenedittis says.

Looks like they have an idea to being it back but it might end up looking like the other animated schlock like The 9th grade ninja show.

Kind of depressing to think that TRON will be downgraded to an obsolete operating system. But at least we might still see the story that we want to be told even if it's not in the same serious tone.

This statement pretty much proves that TRON: Uprising (or a similar idea) is not truly cancelled but only on "hiatus"

It's hard to argue against his point. Funny he says the older audience hasn't *yet* started watching it.

The channel is really just for kids. I find it hard to believe they even think it's even possible for adults to watch it.

I really wish that TV producers would finally get over the idea that "cartoons" are just for kids and they that in order to be successful they need to target the younger demographics. On the opposite end, they also need to realize that adult animation doesn't have to be raunchy comedies ala The Simpsons and Family Guy and that a good dramatic animated series can and does have appeal to adults. TRON: Uprising, they cancel it because it's not appealing enough to the kids, wel d'uh, did they not watch the pilot? Same goes for Young Justice, very well written super hero series that's being replaced, after only 2 seasons, with a kiddified version of Teen Titans. Why can't we get an oriented animation channel that shows serious animation like TRON and Young Justice.

I like how they straight up said that Green Lantern and Young Justice were cancelled due to weak toy sales!!
Wow! Really?

I wish T:U would have even had ONE toy to buy!

That's why I currently hate those people in charge - axing really good cartoons after season 1: GLTAS, T:U, Thundercats 2011. They don't realize that TV programming has come into the 21.st century.

Just voted.

"Dumbing down" this series would really suck. There's too much of that on the Disney networks already. It's too bad Disney won't license any of its programming to another network. First this, then Star Wars Clone Wars is cancelled.

I don't have much hope for "mature" animation, ala "Anime" coming out of Disney any more. Sad really. It's also sad that Disney doesn't know how to market animation except for that designed for a viewing audience age 11 and under.

I really hope they bring the show back in its full entirety. I'd hate for the tone of the show to change and be more child oriented. At the very least I hope it finds life in another network (never going to happen).

it's such a great show, I don't even consider it a cartoon. very well made.
