TRON makeup

Makeup is important but the one thing that bugs me about (con etc.) is those that create absolutely perfect costume replicas, but ignore their ABS! I don't like seeing spiderman with a gut. Or a chunky stormtrooper.

Great find on the makeup link :D
Thank you for posting it, I will be refuring to this when I do mine

here is a good link as well

personal hygiene is a big one with me.

I like how they describe the hair as motionless - like an avatar..

Things like Castor's forehead symbol, you could replicate with makeup, but how would you go about doing something like Quorra's tat?

You can do that makeup look without resorting to MAC over priced cosmetics
Here is how to do the female (and Castors) makeup -
Base - a good primer is essential to create a flawless base. One that says its a satin or moisterising is a good start as itl create a reflective base.

Foundation - pick a foundation with light reflecting qualities, you can add some highlighter to this to create an even more reflective look. dont go overboard as you dont want the skin to be too shiny, even with the Siren's look. you want it to look as if the skin is lit from within. Look for ones with light reflective, irridescent or highlighting in their descriptions. if you want to appear lighter, pick a colour ever so slightly lighter than your own skin tone, do NOT use white.

Concealer Use a creme concealer to remove obvious flaws around the nose, and any pimples.
A different under eye concealer liquid to cover any darkness under the eye and brighten the area. The type like Touche Eclat will help bring out areas you want to give the look of light hitting it - under eyes, top of cheek bones, top of nose, above top lip.

Blusher and Contour - To create the angular cheekbones of both Quorra and Gem, use a taupe blusher to contour under the cheekbones in a c shape and also under the chin. blend in well. You can also apply some highlighter liquid to the top of the cheekbones.

Powder Finish off with a light reflecting powder for Quorra if needed. Sleek do a Powder called the One which has fantastic highlighting shimmer in it. You can add a little extra highlighter powder in white or silver if going for the Siren look. Or you can leave of the powder all together if your skin is dry and the foundation is shimmery enough as is.

Eyes - Quorra had her lids softly defined with black, the lids looked smudged and slightly shiny. A black eyeliner smudged over eye primer and then set with sealant would work well there. a thin smudge line close to the lashes on both top and bottom eyelids and slightly winged upwards, then a thickening and lengthening black mascara to enhance the eyes. White eyeliner on the waterline to make eyes look bigger. A bit of white shimmer eyeshadow on the brow bone.
Jem and Sirens - Strong black eyeshadow in a wing shape. Eyeshadow primer on lids, then a matt nude colour on the crease to browbone. apply a creme or gel black eyeliner over the eyelid to create a good base. using creme or gel means you can get the strong defined cats eye shape. Go over the eyeliner with black eyeshadow with a shimmer. White shimmer applied to browbone. Apply black eyeliner to the waterline. Apply long overly feathery fake eyelashes to both top and bottom lids,. You can get double sets specifically for this doll like look.
Castor apply primer then silver white over crease to browbone. Apply black gel eyeliner over lid and under eye, then apply silver grey powder over that and blend out
Denizens - have block design over their eyes, around foreheads or in tattoo like designs on their face in silver. a good silver pigment directly onto the skin after applying foundation. will create this effect.
Sirens, Castor and many of the programmes have these pale opaque grey/blue/ silver eyes -so contacts would be needed.

Eyebrows -use a black eyebrow pencil to fill in the brows and enhance the arch shape for Sirens and a soft black eyebrow powder on Quorra.
Castor has no eyebrows. Also he has a white stencil design on his forehead. I believe his lashes are also silver - a clear mascara run through lashes then powder gently combed through would give correct look.

Lips - Quorra has defined naked lips. Find the lightest pinky nude pencil and fill in the lips with it, then go over with a clear lip balm or gloss.
For Sirens and Castor, you can use a white shimmer mixed into the balm or a white shimmer gloss.

Companies like Ben Nye, Kryolan, ELF,NYX, GOSH, Inglot, Illamasqua, all do fab products to use, or look in Mineral makeup companies for excellent shimmer powders like Lililolo, Shiro, Fyrinnae, Morgana, EvilShades or Meow Minerals.

Quorros ISOsymbol i think could only be done using UV makeup. you can get clear gel that could be painted ontop of white paint to glow when its near uv light. but that effect was CGI.

I posted this over in the huge Tron thread, but I'm in the process of making a Siren and original program for my boyfriend and I.

Before I get to work on the major costuming, I did some makeup tests on my boyfriend and I. I tested out the Siren makeup, along with a program with derezz damage:

I didn't put the double sets of eyelashes on, but when the costume is finished, I will. Along with the grey contacts. My boyfriend doesn't know if he'll do contacts yet...though I want him to :p! I want to make a more detailed 'damage' part on his face. I plan to get more makeup colors, and try to do tiny pixel chips. This was just a fast run at it.

I used white and very light pink eyeshadow for the lips. For mine, I added some baby pink gloss from Bath and Body Works. My smokey cat eyes were done with multiple black eye shadows, with white eye shadow for highlights. For more depth, I over layed the eye shadow with black pencil.

I did the same thing, (on a lighter scale), for my boyfriend's program. I also dotted both of our faces with the metallic white eye shadow for that 'program sheen'. I also recommend (for Siren's in particular), to go over your eyebrows with black pencil. Pluck to the desired effect, beforehand. Don't go crazy with the black pencil, though; it will look WAY over done...and slightly creepy o_O.

Id make the upper lid a little more winged out, if you take the black up a little more itl give a better shape.

Its a very overtly cats eyes shapes winged look that goes past the crease of the eye.

I'd also recommend a liquid shimmer over powder shimmer for the general all over sheen of the face Kryolan do a perfect one to mix with your own liquid foundation in shade pearl -
Kryolan Professional Make-up - Shimmering Event Foundation
You can see in the photo above how much of a sheen the siren's skin has.

Yeah I saw that after I took the pictures. I also want a nude lipstick to go under the gloss...which would look alot more screen accurate. Since this was the first run at it, I'll definitely be improving it for the when the costume is finished. ;)

From my experience with the Pfieffer catwoman make up you can never go too dark with black! I found it looked great in the mirror and in the in progress shots I'd take but then it would wash out with flash photography at the event proper.

I have since found wetting my brush with Liquiset means I can get intense black that won't budge. When it was dry I'd go over with more powder to make sure it looked matt.

I also have very dark lips so I'll be investing in a budgeproof lipstick to tone them down before using a gloss.

And do be aware that flash will make any and all reflective make up really reflect to the point your work is obscured. I definitely noticed that with Samara and also Danielle from Ever after. If you have a trusted photographer then work with them and not worry about the random photos ;)

On the hunt for decent lens options too..

HAHA yeah flashout! that has happened to me before in a photoshoot. with my almost white skin anyway it can be hilarious..all you see are my eyes mouth and two little holes for my nostrils

id second the setting the black - liquiset, or any liquid eyeliner medium (the kind that turns powder into eyeliner0 Illamasqua do a good one) will only help make the black..blacker !

Im going to go do the siren makeup with what i have to see how it comes out. im not siren body build yet..but i can do the makeup! :D

Today i decided to have a play with the makeup i have to see if i could recreate both Quorra and the siren looks. Afterwards realised how different my two eye shapes and eyebrow shapes are! Something to remember!
This is the Siren look -
I used mineral foundation over bb cream base, then white shimmer eyeshadow heavily buffed onto that to create the high sheen of the siren's skin (the pale sirens rather than the black skin Sirens, where id use a lighter hand)
I used ELF cream eyeliner as a base on the eyes over two faced shadow insurance as primer, then used a matt black eyeshadow and then a gunmetal eyeshadow on top. I didnt have any fake eyelashes that matched the lower lashes but i did add ones to the top lid.
I used my Selene contacts to give that unreal eye look and mixed the white eyeshadow with some lipbalm for the sheen on the lips.

this is my go at Quorra, with the makeup i had -
same base as Siren but less white shimmer on skin, mainly i placed the shimmer down her nose, above the cheekbones and on the chin.
I used ELF cream eyeliner roughly smudged onto the lip. then went over that with a gunmetal silver shadow. White eyeliner on the waterline. Lips were lined with nude lipliner then gone over with lipbalm
i used a dark brown black eyeshadow to define the eyebrows (went over them with black eyeshadow for the Sirens)
Would love to see a good screengrab of Quorra with her eyes closed as im sure i remember at one point seeing smudged eyemakeup.( yes even during watching a film i pay attention to the makeup lol)
The wig was the closest i had to her hair lol-

ok sakara you are great! I've been playing with both of these of and on and you've really helped with product suggestion. I bought the MAC lipstick they said they used on Quorra, definitely not the only thing needed for her lips... thanks so much!!!

no probs!!! :D
i dont like MAC makeup, find it overpriced overhyped makeup that isnt as great as great as people go on about it and its only famous because of its name now.(its owned by Estee Lauder now).
I do own a few MAC lipsticks but thats about it.

You can do the same look without using their makeup.

Mmm, you could maybe try playing around with EL film for the symbol on Quorra's arm.

My bf used it years ago for character that had a symbol glowing on his forehead:

Cosplay.com - That's Not Photoshop - Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Fernand de Morcerf - Jinyo

But it would be adding more wires to a costume that is already full of wires for all the necessary lights, and you'd probably need to spirit gum nude-colored fabric or similar material to make it look like skin.

I am a fan of MAC. I find there products to very good yes they may be pricey to some but the quality is there. I have never met a person who is completely satisfied with 1 brand of cosmetics for everything. NARS makes great stuff as does Aveda and Fresh or Urban Decay. It really comes down to application. If you know what you are doing then you should be able to pretty much achieve any look using almost whatever. Oh and to note I am a straight married man. I just happened to work at Sephora while I was in college. A great site to check out is makeup alley. Carry on lol
