Tron Legacy: the Other Props

Here's what I did with the necklace I made, with a dummy N8 and a iPhone 2G logic board.

I haven't get the materials to make the blue back light, so I used a button flashlight to show the effects only.

Without the huge white button flashlight..

The screen was photoshopped.. because I just can't get that thing open and replace the fake screen. Anyone knows how to do that?

Wow.. that necklace is "dead on". Very nice work Kevinericon!

I think Kevin did a great job on the chip, but let's not forget that it was based on our reference available up to this point. Saying it's "dead on" is a bit premature.

Seeing the movie on the big screen again, it's clear that there are additional, smaller branches of circuitry not visible in current reference.

Also, having studied the sliding of the chip and putting on the of the necklace, it's clear to me that this item is double-sided. (The circuit pattern appearing on both sides.)

I have to agree. Kevin did a great job on this. And I have thought about odering one several times since he made it available. But I have decided to wait until we have better screen caps.

I'm with you guys - waiting for better caps for better replica

Hey NickyTea,

I'm not trying to start some drama but I understand your concernings about it being 100% but for what I need for my own collection is a bit different. This will be a deplay piece on a shelf and will rarely be taken out and handled by others. The chip fits into sim card holder and the back of that tray blocks the rear of the chip. If your making a double sided chip and removing the back of the tray then rock on. It will be a nice prop that can be seen on both sides for people to wear around their necks. I've seen the movie a few times and I don't think I ever saw the back of the necklace unless someone has some pics of the actual prop from the film.

I hope you don't take offense to my reply... that is not my intention.

Chuck

Chuck,
The way the SIM card slides into the tray shows the BACK of the chip, not the side that Kevin replicated. (If you look at his phone replica on this page, you'll see that his chip in placed on top of the tray, and not actually slid into it.)

I understand what your saying about the tray. I've looked around and the iPhone 3G sim card has an open back to it. I'm not a computer guy but is there another sim card tray that will work? Or just modify the sim card.

Wanted to bring this thread back... so... um...
I finally saw the toy "baton" in person at a Disney store this week. It's insanely oversized and cheap looking and I was really hoping it would only be a -little- crappy so I could mod it but that's not going to happen.
It would be interesting to see some of the miscellaneous constructs from the baton. Things like Gem's umbrella, the harpoons, grappling hooks and guard weapons. Oh, and I'd like a 1:1 Gem replica too please.
I really, really love this movie. Haven't felt this way about a movie for quite a long time. I have the prequel game on its way (though I hear it's crap) and I'm going to see if there are any models that can be ripped maybe to use with pepakura or as reference.

The Baton is the harpoon, grapplong hook and sword and lightcyle and what ever it has programed in it. That is one thing about the baton its kinda of an all purpose tool (weapon thumbdrive). I would like to see Q's book that had the EOL sector card in it and an EOL sector card that is glass like would be nice

Gems umbrella is kinda like a Blade Runner Umbrella with a led rim and center top, which the do make for patio umbrellas.

I know the baton is the harpoon. Quorra shoots an actual harpoon out of it near the end of the film. I points the baton and shoots out a solid grappling hook with glowing accents that's attached to a rope of light. She then swings on the rope and cuts it off when she's done.
I'd like to see someone replicate that hook and the other constructs that come out of the baton (as well as a good looking baton).

Amen to that.

EDIT: Finally won a 2G logic board on eBay for a resonable price, now I can start my first prop repro following in Kevin's footsteps! W00t!

Just thought I would point out something for all those still in need of a 2G board. There is currently an auction (not mine) on eBay for a lot of 5 with buy it now of $75. Divided 5 ways that's $15 a piece. Maybe those that need/want one can pool their money and pick up this lot.

It has taken me a few months to finally nab mine and the prices don't seem to go much lower than $10 - $15 so it might be a good solution if there are five of you out there in need. Just search iPhone 2g mother bord (yes, misspelling is intentional).

Hope that helps someone.

Totally destroyed my dummy N8 trying to take it apart. Man, any tips would be greatly appreciated . Going to have to order a new one.

Bobby

I have the dummy phone and iphone board on the way, managed to pick both up pretty cheap :love But i'm alittle worried about taking the dummy phone apart aswell!

That app looks great, but not sure I want to spend money buying the actual phone just to run this app. I will keep hoping someone makes the screen print overlay :unsure

Bobbywan, I hope you salvaged the front plastic panel, then you can just rip away the panel from the new dummy and use the old one when you put the graphic in.

Still have to order my dummy phone... :(

On a separate note, Megatron mentioned it earlier but has anyone thought of trying to create an End of Line Club glass coaster like Quorra gives Sam in the movie? I have a EoLC coaster from the ARG, but I'm not sure it's a match for the screen used prop.

Either way, I would love to get a real glass version. If nothing else, maybe a nice resin piece that looks the part.

Thoughts?

I was thinking of etched glass or plastic, a crazy one would to make it out of LE sheet or a even a screen with full graphics and light

I was thinking of etched glass myself. Granted, I have no idea how to go about actually getting it made, but I could model it in 3D since it's a pretty simple shape (I'm a noob!) and recreate the graphics in Illustrator and import them into the 3D program.

This is a pic of the coaster from the ARG given out at SDCC last year:

I haven't had a lot of luck finding a screen cap of the coaster from the film but I remember that the shape was the exact same and I'm pretty sure it had the same graphics, just with the blue on the pic above being silver/metallic in the film and the white being glass.

Sadly, we may have to wait until the Blu-ray disc is released on April 11th before starting on this...:unsure
