Tron Legacy Original Soundtrack by Daft Punk

Well I finally listened to the entire Tron Legacy OST including the extras, Amazon bonuses, and bonus tracks. Not bad but I still prefer the original Tron OST by Wendy Carlos.

Daft Punk is hyped up quite a bit on this soundtrack but I find some of their tracks just repetitive on the Tron Legacy OST. Heavy orchestrated strings (violins and cellos) in the background with 2-3 electronic notes in the foreground. And a heavy base/drum beat and you have a soundtrack?

Not all the tracks are bad. I do like the remixed versions of Derezzed but again they are someone else remixing the original score. I noticed it is the remixed versions of Derezzed that is also used in the trailers.

So overall I give it a 3 out 5 bytes!:lol

Im a huge DP fan, been so for years and even had the pleasure of opening for them when they came to Philly years ago. I know what you mean about some of the stuff sounding the same, personally I dont think so but then again thats just me.

A lot of DP fans have bene giving it negative reviews because they were thinking it was gonna sound more like their previous releases.

Heres a cool little quote from producer Sean Bailey:

Producer Sean Bailey: Here's a cool little anecdote. One night one of the cameras went down so we couldn't shoot for a couple hours. So there was this impromptu rave in the Tron warehouse in the middle of the night with Daft Punk deejaying.

Joe Kosinski: Everyone was in costume!

Sean Bailey: We just had a dance party at four in the morning.

I've listened to it a number of times now, and I really like it. It's an interesting blend of orchestral and electronic.

I'm anxious to see the images associated with these tracks!

None of the tracks are "bad" sounds like it will flow nicely with the movie. It just isn't a DAFT PUNK ALBUM.

And Cap'n Saavy, I bet if you had the next POTC OST and it was just one note the entire time... you would be giddy as a schoolgirl! LOL! :p

hahahah in his defense I wprolly would too

Yeah but POTC OST OST will hopefully be more orchestral rather than like AWE which was a blend of orchestra, period piece instruments, and Gore and his electric guitar.

I tend to like more orchestral soundtracks unless it is blended with foreign instruments like Sao Feng's Theme, The changing of the hats with Jack in DMC with the small band (I think they are a local group from California), Kraken theme with the heavy electronic baseline, and Davy Jones theme with music box.

Don't get me wrong I like most of the tracks on the Tron Legacy OST. Addagio for Tron is good! Derezzed of course including a remixed version. The Bonus tracks Emcon I and II are good. Father and Son.

Someone said they heard Batman in the Tron Legacy OST. I heard a bit of Alice In Wonderland. Look who did those albums. Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo. OB was also an electronic driven sound band so it makes sense that some of the sounds are alike.

I have a 1 1/2 hour drive home and I listened to the OST twice this evening. It is growing on me!

Let's just say there are "bits" in it that don't "byte!"

Not from what I've read. Then again from what I've read the last Daft Punk album didn't do so well. I'm not a fan of this kind of music so they could have probably gotten someone with a darker edge to them to do it. Trent Reznor was into electronic/industrial and since the film is a darker one that may have worked. Turns out the US edition is missing some tracks. There is a 2nd disc in europe and now there are 2 Itunes exclusive songs.

I think that's why people are all POed about it because it's not an album and people need to separate that thought from the fact that this is a MOVIE SCORE, a supplemental component of a movie. I think if they did what they do in their albums it just might be overbearing to the tone of some of the scenes in the film those pieces were written for.

As a score I think it sounds great. An album it is not.

Got-em!!!

Father and Son - Bonus track
Outland II - Bonus track
Sea of Simulation - Amazon.com Bonus track

CD2:
Emcon I
Emcon II
Round One
Castor
Reflections

I wish Original Sound Tracks would be released as it is scored with the movie. I take my DVDs and rip the soundtrack from the audio track for all my POTC movies. There are blends of music that you don't / won't hear on the Official OST CD release.

This quote is about all that needs to be said about this. (y)thumbsup

Totally agree.

My friends GF is a HUGE Daft fan and was super excited when I told her about this OST. I told her and TOLD her it wouldn't be what she was looking for. I also told her if she was going to DL it to ask me first.

She bought it for 10 bucks from itunes with NO extra tracks! DOH! :unsure

Apparently there is also an exclusive of some sort from walmart. Yeah this isn't nearly as techno/electronica as the original soundtrack and like a few folks on amazon said why even have Daft Punk do the soundtrack when most of it is traditional orchestra.

Actually, the itunes album has two extra tracks:

Father and Son
Outlands, Pt. II

My understanding is each online retailer (Amazon, itunes, tronsoundtrack.com) had "exclusive" tracks.

I agree conpletely that its not going to be enjoyed as much if you expect it to be an album. I still like it a lot, especially the more electronic tracks. I thiink it'll all go very well with the movie.

The video game actually has more music that sounds like the original movie score which surprised me. I think there are 2 of Daft Punk's songs (I know Derezzed is in it because they play it when you're in one area).

Interesting. Does any of it sound like this, by any chance? I ask because the music in that video sounds exactly like the Tron Legacy soundtrack style, but it isn't from any of the (released) score, either on the regular soundtrack, the extended soundtrack, or any of the bonus tracks from online retailers.

Anubisguard: that does sound like tron legacy music but i don't think it's from the game at least not so far.
