Tron Legacy Movie Review

Hard to say whether or not Kevin Flynn and CLU are both dead. Most of the characters derezzed into cubes shattering to the floor. When Flynn and CLU merged they exploded into some type of "ooze" rather than cubes.

My understanding is that Bridges is onboard (at least his voice perhaps) for Tron: Revelations.

My question is who is now going to rise to power in The Grid to take over and be the adversary that "crosses over?" :confused

I think it should be called more like Tron: Reboot to kinda fit the theme with Hollywood's relentless act of redoing films, hahah!

Jeff Bridges looks like he genuinely had a good time making that film. I mean his acting was solid, but you know, it's cool there's still great actors out there willing to do another chapter of something that old out there. You'd think with his level of accolades in film that some of those egos would feel they are too above and good for those roles anymore, but I think it was super cool they got him back, not to mention the addition of Mr. Boxleitner.

Wouldn't take to much for a premise for the sequel.

Sam is CEO of ENCOM and immediately butts heads with Dillinger Jr. since he appointed Bradley as chairman. Dillinger Jr. finds out about Flynn's work, and hacks into the Grid to claim the work as his own (shadows of his father)

Dillinger Jr obviously knows his way around coding, so once he's in the Grid, he would effectively be a super user like Flynn.

You can go from there... Flynn, Tron, Sam and Quorra team up to battle against another user in the system who can change things at his whim.

That's fun broad-strokes... but you have to add in that Quorra doesn't want to go. A warrior-priest with a beginner's mind isn't going to go back; she's going to go forward. Dillinger Jr. will have to pull Sam into the grid against his will, and Obi-wan Flynnobi will have to appear to a distraught but conflicted corporeal Quorra and philosophize her back in to help, promising her that he will manifest himself as well.

...

DANG! I hate when movies make me do this. You are too awesome, Tron: Legacy! You're making me fan-fic!

dang, just got back from the belgium première and man was that mind blowing. Sutch an open ending! i loved it!!!

Umm... Larry. All those years with comic books... may have led to this! :confused

My friend and I JUST got off the phone. And you almost read my mind.

Add in that Dillenger jr. was already manipulating CLU behind the scenes (before and even during legacy) and forming a NEW MCP that was ALMOST ready to go online during legacy and VOILA! :love

Oh and Dillinger jr. HAS to have the horns like Sark! (FANBOY!)

I know! I just hate it when narrative makes me extrapolate and I don't get paid for it. :angry

That's good stuff! DISNEY TAKE NOTE!

Hopefully the next Tron movie will not have the same spiritual frappachino that Matrix did with the extremely frappachino ending!!!:angry

Me, I think Disney is looking at the next (mooted) flick as the second of a trilogy, so I don't think extreme frappucino will show up until TRON: REDEMPTION or whatever they call it. :)

You do realize that Legacy's ending has extraordinary parallels to the ending of the third Matrix movie, right? Take the climactic character turns of Revolutions and Return of the Jedi, frame it with a Hamlet conflict for Sam, and you've got Tron: Legacy.

Just tell him there are pirates in the next one and he will calm down. :rolleyes

Well maybe if Bridges doesn't return Ferrell will take his place. That will definitely spell DOOM for the final movie.:lol

Matrix 2 and 3 were two of THE worst sequels I have ever had to see in a theater. I walked out of Matrix 3 but unfortunately made the mistake of buying the DVDs several years later just to finish the series. Watching them back to back to back wasn't all that better.

I definitely feel Tron 3 will be as good. Bringing the story line into the real world will prove to be interesting so long as we can see light cycles zipping up and down Sunset Blvd (or whatever street they simulate in Vancouver BC as being LA).

As far as pirates being in the movie? That would be a nice twist. Add a few hackers as well that break into the MCP and gain access to information!!! Spread the wealth. Actually Sam Flynn is a "pirate." He helped to make OS12 free!

I saw it in regular 3D with my son yesterday. Great flick! He was mesmerized by the Daft Punk outfits! He painted some LEGO figures to look like them when we got home.

The graphic design was amazing! I can't wait for the blu-ray to come out!

Hrm. Looks like that BTS video has a glimpse of a deleted lightrunner sequence. Could be Kevin and Quorra heading to the EOL club? I love their entrance as-is, but this would be cool to see.

I must be insane. You want to know why? Because over on YouTube, I got into an argument with someone trying to find logic in the actions of characters in a Disney movie (and yes, it was "Tron Legacy" we were arguing over). Thank god I came to my senses and decided to end it.

I saw the regular version (not 3-D). As several friends said "It wasn't as bad as I had expected." Most of what I noticed reflects what some have already said. It's a fun, visual fest with great design and a good soundtrack. Go into it with that expectation, just enjoy the ride without thinking about it too much, and you'll have a good time. Expect more -- like, say, a story -- and you'll be disappointed.

there aren't any real plot spoilers below, but a few visual spoilers...

Bonus points: some fun use of capoeira in the early gaming fight scenes, along with a parkour-influenced use of 3-D fighting space by Flynn. The 2-D game grid from the first film has been updated to a cool multi-tiered gaming space, which I loved. And some beautiful air fight scenes toward the end, the electronic trails are really cool. Oh, and Cillian Murphy was great, but also wasted in such a small role. I hope he at least has a larger one in the sequels.

Shortcomings: The science/tech made no sense (I won't even list all the inconsistencies and WTF moments), many of the characters were 2-dimensional and as a result their actions seemed contrived, a lot of it was predictable, and yes, it directly lifted from many classic sci-fi films (including the last Matrix film, as someone mentioned). ETA: oh, how could I forget! I wanted to sing Welcome to the Uncanny Valley every time CLU is on the screen. One of my friends found it so distracting it became irritating for him to try to watch it. I think Tron: Legacy is now synonymous with Uncanny Valley and all the pitfalls of it. ...On a separate note, if you're a mystic warrior with the sum of all knowledge, you'd be smart enough not to wear 5 inch heels to do battle.

Another bummer: I was disappointed that there was only 1 female character for every 50-100 male characters, literally. I saw a total of 6 female characters in the whole film, including Quorra -- of those 5 didn't have more than 2 minutes of screen time and little to no dialog, 4 of those were never seen again, and 2 were twins with no dialog so they counted as 1. There were so many opportunities to have included some females in what is a major sci-fi film. Any of the programs that were "arrested", any of the gaming competitors, any of the clones, any of the henchmen. Blah.

I guess in The Grid there are no women, like in space there is no underwear.
