Tron Legacy Costume

I just got mine (2) 1.25x12" strips) from Glowhut and it's salmon color when off. I didn't even inquire before I ordered. I'm going to try some frosted vinyl film on top or better yet, some black scrim since it will be off 80% of the time.
The jacket is a Perry Ellis I picked up at Macy's for $50. Not leather, but I like the look. As a bonus, It has a zip in hoodie if I feel like Sam instead of Kevin. LOL

That's a great start! I'm going to hold out for a better close-enough jacket, but in the meantime will be following your progress. :thumbsup

I have a copy. It is mainly concept drawings, with a few actual photos. The only picture of Rinzler I think in it is the shot of him jumping down in the Arena scene.

There are a couple of decent pictures of Sam, Quorra, and Clu if anyone is interested. I have noticed that (at least on Clu, maybe Sam) there is some material on the edges of the lighting strips. On Clu it looks like paint or tape, this even forms the black center of the light circles. I'll try to scan some pages or at least take a decent picture of them.

I was afraid of that. I always get attached to characters who are either not featured much or of whom there are little good photos of. :facepalm

Thanks though, it does help. Now I know to wait to get the book and use the money for, uh, other TRON related things. :lol

So I'll be in LA thursday evening until monday!

Was just going to go to ALA to party (drunkcon) and not to dress up but I still need a photoshoot with Quorra. Planning to wear it on Friday. Not sure if I can make it to the el Capitan thingy ;_;

That is way to cool, I would love to own one and trick it all out with lights.

But what if stopped a side ways type hill or by a big pot hole. I wounder if the wheels would adjust for it.
I had a 70 fastback mustang that was so jacked up in the back end that some parking lots I had to back out off or my front bumber would hit the ground. I allways had to think and adjust my driving..bet it is the same way with this bike.

Non the less I want one....he he he

Has anyone tried sewing on reflective fabrics to simulate the lights? I'm a bit timid when it comes to tackling the EL sheets. The reflective tape used by some looks very nice in the photos when ambient light is present.

Balloon rubber is basically just latex.. which can be found in a sprayable form. You may need some sort of industrial spray gun to apply it, though. I found this while searching around a bit... might be possible to tint it with some sort of pigment to get a nice iridescent white color. I wonder how durable the coating would be on top of Spandex. :confused

I'm starting to suspect that they may have done Quorra's leggings in a similar fashion.

Liquid latex is pretty easy to get and apply by hand to lycra :) I have tested this a few times and there are a few things to think about:
To save time and fiddliness pattern the pieces first then cut your base lycra into panels- not the pattern shape but small enough to be able to handle. You can then cut the pieces out of the best spots and the latex will prevent the edges from curling
Do not soak the lycra and then drape over a form. The latex will start to cure on your hands and you will wind up with latex equivalent of pilling- tiny lumps.
You can thin liquid latex with water to the desired consistency.
You can drizzle and paint the latex on to a vertical or horizontal mold. If you mix the latex with water you can start with horizontal and turn vertical to let the excess drip off.
You can colour liquid latex with acrylic paint. Even metallic acrylic pant. It's easier to pre-colour the latex than paint after. You will need less than you think so mix then paint some to cure to test the colour.

Latex sticks really really well to lycra, and it winds up being much stronger than latex alone.

If you need to glue anything to the latex Shoe Goo is amazing. I just repaired a torn set of Asari tentacles with this and it's worked really well. No discolouration and it flexes well.

I have just decided to make this costume too after much internal debate :) But given I am having violent reactions to resin I think this is a more sensible costume ;)

I am though using my stash as I have silver and white satin finish PVC already. That and I have just got the smell of balloon out of my workroom ;)

I will probably go reflective tape for this as well. Looking at the BTS footage the EL is pale salmon coloured but the Siren costumes don't. They also seem to be on some roughly cut base:

Funny thing is when I saw tron at Imax I really couldn't tell the lenses had hexagonal pupils! Saw that they were larger and there was a distinct ring around the iris. So I may wind up getting lenses that give that feel as opposed to proper ones.

Also I'm a tad up the proverbial creek. I have red hair. Admittedly it's more orange than primary red... I think I'll just use a hair spray to go lighter.

I like Sam's normal costume, its simple and cool. Pair it with the helmet and sticker as well as the chip necklace and I think it would be a cool costume that could also pass as everyday wear. Any id on the jacket and helmet yet?

wear it saturday. we want to have a tron meetup around 3

Finally got a cheap dressmakers mannequin to start my Tron Legacy inspired costume (am making a "red" program (similar to Rinzler) the diffusion of EL Wire doesn't seem to look as good as it should but just straight up EL Wire embedded in costume should be ok, am going to use some red LED's attached to button batteries in holders i ordered on eBay along with some wire, will post pics when I am underway, am looking fo a good RED program name if anyone has ideas :)

Don't want to distract and/or derail to much from everyone progress here or clog up the boards with another Tron Costume thread. However, I am making my own plans for a Tron Legacy costume. Basically going for a program on the grid. I need some help so if you can PLEASE check my progress blog site and give me some aide so I can get this costume started. Thanks!

If you want at least a pointer on fabric. Avoid anything organic, therefore avoid cotton. Everything in the outfits for the movie was synthetic. ;-)

you should DEFINITELY come to the "el capitan thingy" on Friday night. It's going to be awesome!!!

I guess I'll be there. So much work into the costume, we got to wear it every chance we get. These $20 movie tickets and weekday traffic are killing me. And sheepgirl, if you need a ride from your hotel, PM any of us that are going.

I have red hair my self so I have the same problim..lol

Yes they used reflective tape on this outfit that was on display
in these photos. The flash did reflect off the glass in the first 2
lighted photos of suit because of the angle it was shot.

http://www.fanpop.com/external/17623046

6th one down you can kind of see it, but the 9th and 10th photo
when taken you can clearly see in the reflection of the glass
that the arms on the out side did not light up. If it did light up on
its own the you would see the light in the glass.

So I know this was not a screen used sirens outfit but something
that was worn by Celesta Hodge as she was a official alternative
out side the movie. Plus it did not have pale salmon colour on the light
strips that the screen used sirens outfits had.

Starting at about 3 min in this link of be hide the screens footage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE2aSyAmHwY
you can see the pale salmon coloured when she is not lite up.
In the photos on display did not have the pale salmon colour in
any of the photos.

It is great for every
thing else as it is a official sirens out fit.

I had a quick question about EL Wire... does anyone know now long its batteries would last? I'm looking at using a 12v inverter with the 8AA battery setup, but I am looking at running about 30-35ft max of EL wire depending on how the wiring works out. Anyone have any guesstimates on the batterylife? wanna know before I commit to more of this and end up using like 100 batteries in the span of a weekend XD

There is so much information on the RPF about TRON at the moment that you can assume that almost every possible topic has been discussed already ;)

Like man from Naboo said there's a TON of info on here about all of this!! But the husband and I just finished our TRON costumes, Quorra and program and it's all with EL wire, the batteries last HOURS! I have 4 battery packs on mine and I haven't had to change the batteries yet and I've worn it 3 times for at least 4 hours a piece, they're not even dim yet.

Speaking of finishing...:lol
Now I want to re-do it in EL tape...! So much for finishing! Also the husband and I are helping a friend do the lights for the Daft Punk TRON jackets and he wants to do a Castor costume as well... and that means I'll have to make a Siren... yay TRON 2011!!! Be prepared for lots of questions, pictures and progress! Everyone keep up the good work!!
