Tron Legacy Costume

I'm considering working on Flynn's 89 jacket. The actual jacket might be out of my budget, but I've seen a lot of jackets that look almost identical. Don't know if I should go with reflective material or EL. May go with reflective stuff because I know almost nothing about wiring things.

ETA: After looking at the picture of the director wearing it. Shouldn't the light strip be a wider? I seem to remember it appearing at least two inches wide.

after re-reading the clu wip thread i'm not sure either whether this jacket is kevin flynn's jacket, so i checked the teaser trailer in 1080p:

also, supposing the jacket kevin wears when he tells young sam about the grid is the same jacket he wears in the grid (except lit up) then it's a completely different jacket from the alpinestars one.

also, why would the director be wearing kevin's/clu's jacket? however, the director's jacket is still cool.

I don't have any official reference, but like you, I've been growing frustrated with the distinct lack of basic Quorra reference. I can't sew to save my life, but what I can do is draw. So, I've drawn up as much as I can decipher of Quorra's costume from what reference pictures I've gathered. So here is Quorra from the front, side, and back. Hope it helps!

(You can see bigger versions of each on my blog ----> Quorra Costume Design « The Art of Briana Lamb )

Briana, the Tron Evolution games has nice pictures of Quorra - which are fairly accurate. And your sketches are very accurate. Here:

Those are perfect reference pics!

Is there anything similar in the Evolution games for Rinzler? Is really hard to find accurate ones for him...

Well, I guess I was close with my artwork. Though now it feels like a bit of a wasted effort. Oh well. :unsure

Thanks for posting those reference pictures though. That'll be more help than my drawings.

I wonder if it's just an angle of the shot. Either that, or the director's jacket is a one-off and not an actual screen-used jacket.

Is there a reference on the actual jacket or a close-enough? That seems like half the battle as adding straight strips of EL material shouldn't be too elaborate.

Don't be so negative - I don't think it's wasted, it maybe later giving you an inspiration.

For the costume I've started, was thinking that since the lit up lines on the suit are fairly narrow and thing, to cut the strips out of a wetsuit, line the gaps with shiny reflective material like a white shower curtain. Facing out, attached from the inside...and then just using EL wire, 1 strip of it along each line up the leg, etc. etc.

Anyone think that'd be bright enough? With the EL wire making the reflective white surface appear to glow as well? Might be a super easy / somewhat cheaper way to go about things...

that's the method used by annisse and eddie. search for shower curtain in this thread. the thing with wetsuits is that you cant carve it cleanly. you have to cut it all the way through and back it with another material to create a channel.

Wow! Exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for! Thanks! I hadn't even considered that the game might have some great shots. Also, Briana, those sketches are incredible and will definitely be a huge help! I have a couple of sketches I was starting to work on, but they're nowhere near as clean. :)

The only shot I can find right now is this one from the comic prequel. There should be one in the game too, I remember him wearing it during the early parts.

I also notice that the boots lights up as well. But a single wire on each could do that detail.

Hey,

More questions if anyone can help! My fiancee can get me cheap wetsuits so I thought I'd do that. I'm planning on just using EL wire, cutting out shapes for the lit up lines out of white vinyl or shower curtain, making 2 layers and just running the wire between them so the diffuse glow makes the strip glow. Heres my questions:

1. Would it be too hard to attach the strips to a wetsuit?

2. If not, what'd be the best adhesive to use?

3. How to do the strips? Just attach the 1st strip, lay the wire down the middle, then attach the top strip over it to form the pocket that the wire goes through?

4. If thats how I could do it, would I have to insert anything else in order to make sure the wires dont heat and melt the vinyl, etc?

5. How to make the small circles? Im just hesitant about bending the wire in to that small a shape.

Thank you in advance!

Thanks YenChih Lin. I was having a bit of a rough morning. (My heart's on my sleeve even online! Yikes!)

I'm glad they'll be of help! Best of luck.

Does anybody happen to have a pattern for gloves? Also, has anyone had any luck with making a pair of neoprene (or neoprene-esque) gloves? You'd think they'd be simple, but boy are they tripping me up!

The jacket definitely looks similar to the one worn by the director. I do notice the director's jacket has a lot more detail, like some sort of "punched-out pattern" all over it. I wonder what the material is.

Are you certain that they're neoprene? They look like lycra to me, given the way the fabric bunches in certain shots. I was looking into using a pair of arm length Lycra gloves myself.

Oh no, I have no idea what material they're actually made out of. They look like the same material my wetsuit is made out of, so I assumed neoprene. But either way, I'm just looking for what looks to be the closest and works!

The mains issue I'm finding is that most gloves are satin or velvet. Quorra's gloves are definitely matte, not shiny. (I did find one pair that I bought from England, only to find that it didn't fit worth anything!)

You had planned an rpf meet at E L Capitan next friday the 6th. At which times have you guys decided upon, 7:45 or 10:45? I 'd say 7:45 so that the night will be young enough for pics at bill boards and clubbing. I have a few other friends who want to see the groups cosplays live as well.

:ninja:ninja:ninja:ninja:ninja

Plus to all others who weren't able to make it to tron rpf meet at city walk, there is a small anime convention called ALA next week, friday to sunday. I'll be there in various cosplays, but it'll be cool to set up a cosplay gathering for those who would be checking it out and happen to have tron wear as well.

Give a shout out if you'd like to set up a time to meet there (ALA)! Preferably night, best time to glow!

(new mcp reprogramming pic to be posted soo!)

I've read through at least half this thread. And I'm still reading. There's a lot of good info here. What works and what doesn't...

I don't think I have the time and patience to make a full costume but I want to light up one my old athletic jackets.

Keep up the good work, guys.
