Thanks for mentioning this, Protip & oxVICIOUSxo - this had happened to me and lets say that ALL FAILED in the end because of it.

Sorry it took this long to post about my suit's progress. As for my costume, well - movie night weekend was proven to be a not so good planned one with the choices of fabrics and EL wiring. Lets say that I didn't make it to a costume debut for the movie release midnight showing(but seems that was OK for NO ONE ELSE was in costume as well and I would of so stood-out). But what was more disappointing for me that I couldn't wear it to the TRON-theme party in NYC that movie weekend. The prob was with suit(and I was too stubborn-proud to follow through the online advice of their difficulties): spandex was being what it suppose to be and EL wiring was being too entangled for it. Putting it on by oneself also proven to be A DIFFICULT TASK and from how I designed my suit, it was just that plus.

I became so frustrated with it that it was too late to attend the party and worse I was just too frustrated to go.:angry So, as my 'costume designing' ego was low, I DEREZZED the idea of it for now until I find a better way of making it much better in putting it on. I think I might of came up with something that could work(making better body armor out of hard-foam material to put within it?), but again since no new big cons plans as of yet, it will be worked on at a more clear-minding pace for now.

It is a shame this suit wasn't able to make it out with us on the 18th Costumer.. next event you want to wear it all, just say so and we will rally the troops.

Not knowing alot about different mediums, but that almost looks like leather to me, maybe with pockets for the lighting to be put in?

No its to matt to be leaather I think it's a plastic compound with see thru parts for lighting
also any1 who is interested I'm making a black guard ("my profile pic") helmet out of an open face motorcycle helmet and some black tinted (one way) perspex
i would also use computer cooling fans in the resperator modules
well anyway what do you think rolleyes

Does anyone have concept images like these for Quorra? I've seen one, but not a front/back like this... and it looked somewhat different from what was actually used on screen. I assume these images were made as references for the crew about how the costumes should look? It'd be great if there were one for Quorra.

I don't have any official reference, but like you, I've been growing frustrated with the distinct lack of basic Quorra reference. I can't sew to save my life, but what I can do is draw. So, I've drawn up as much as I can decipher of Quorra's costume from what reference pictures I've gathered. So here is Quorra from the front, side, and back. Hope it helps!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Planning on making a tron legacy costume for Halloween 2011, need help. I've read through the entire thread, but am pretty green when it comes to soldering and the whole EL tape thing. Tried sending a few PM's to the regulars here but just checked my sent messages and there's nothing in there so not sure if they got them. I'll list off a bunch of questions if someone wants to take a stab at them (provided you're not annoyed by the cascade of questioning) or if someone would like to assist privately (I'd more than likely need help along the way so if via email would be better, it's all good). Here we go.

1. My fiancee can get me a new black full body wetsuit for like $60, would that be a good base? I'm assuming that gluing, sewing, working EL in to it, would be a royal pain. Any better solution?

2. My original idea was to cut out the shapes of the digital lines (as you know, they zig zag a bit in the design, there's circles on the shoulders, etc.) and take EL tape, attach it from the inside facing out and run with that. Yay or nay? Better to just attach them flat on top and put black over top of THAT to achieve the desired shapes?

3. My knowledge of soldering is minimal. I get the gist of it, but having never done it ever (I know...), like I said...minimal. Would it be possible to have one battery pack (think they're called inverters) attached to my back for the upper body, and one for the lower body, and just have the wires and tape strips snake out from each individual unit? Do the wires loop back or is it just INVERTER ----> EL TAPE and it just ends at the other end? Just because my idea is to (if it can be pictured) have the pack in lower middle back, two EL tape strips run up to the shoulders, from there have two run down the arms and then two down the front of the chest down to the waist. Similar for legs, pack on back, strips down the back of each leg and one around waist and down front of each leg. If that makes sense.

I have both the deluxe disc with lights and one without, would definitely like to incorporate that, I could probably figure out that part via velcro, etc.

Seriously, if anyone would be willing to help via PM's here, through email/facebook chat, whatever. Even if someone would want me to describe what I need and I could get someone to draw me a crude sketch of where each strip would go, soldering places, etc. Monetary compensation for you time would be no prob. I'll obviously have waaay more questions.

If you've read this far, thanks for your time. Love the forum, everyone's costumes so far are ridiculously cool.

I never tried that.. as I understand it, if the wire is from the same company and you are careful you should easily be able to bond 2mm to 5mm wire of different colors, or any combo of sizes. The size really only seems to vary for the casing over the inner wire (i.e. the colored plastic shell).

Take a few inches of two different wires and try it out for us. :love

Just stumbled across this thread and the costumes are AMAZING! Great work, everyone! I'll have to read through it more closely.

The reason I ask about lighting solutions is that the project I would like to pursue is the leather jacket that Kevin Flynn and CLU are shown wearing in the flash back sequence with the single column of blue light on the inside/zipper portion of one side of the jacket.

Yes, I want one of these too. Somewhere on the RPF is a photo of the director wearing this jacket that should serve as a good reference pic.

I was researching a way to light an identity disc replica I plan to make to accompany my 'Ween 2011 costume project... I figured I wouldn't be able to fit the necessary assemblies for EL in the disc, and also have read in some of the prop threads here that it really wouldn't be all that bright anyhow compared to LEDs. So, I thought that perhaps a bundle of optical fiber would help move the light around the disc's edge, so that I can avoid having LED hotspots. Perhaps it could even be embedded in some kind of clear rubber so that it diffuses even more?

Anyhoo, in the course of searching for fiber bundles, I found this. The fiber is woven into fabric, and looks pretty evenly lit (though an extra diffusing layer might help even more). Has anyone tried this before?

Yeah, gams001, I have seen this failure event as a 'A REASON FOR EVERYTHING' action and now I feel more confident the next 'redevelopment' of it will not go in vain. Thanks for the invite - I think it would be a great experience to do just that onenight and see how/what reactions we get too(and in NYC - wow)! :lol

Hey, everything is basically EL wire superglued to the helmet and disks. I actually have finished the entire costume. I went to see the movie (10 days post-opening . . . haha) and several people asked to take pics with me.

I'll upload pics of entire costume once my friend emails me the photos. Any questions, just lemme know. I may not reply promptly b/c I'm out of town.

Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to Twinight for his quick responses to all my questions.
