Tron Legacy Costume

Dear Programs, All of you have done great on your costumes. I would ask that all of us go and see TRON LEGACY again. It's really the only good movie out there. It needs to do well to have a sequel. I don't know if if DISNEY will do another one. I know TRON"S director will be doing a remake of THE BLACK HOLE. So we'll see what happens.
Dear ANNISSE, hope all is well after your accident. I had a bad one a few years ago. I ended up spending a good deal of money on expensive tires. Well worth it. It's prevented any furthur accidents. Get thicker & taller tires. I'l post pictures of my costume soon. Stiil trying to break in the leather & motorcycle armour. I feel stiff.
The leather pants were great with some body armor. Wish all of you programs the best.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
FLYNN LIVES! CLU

Oh and how can I forget to mention.... movie was beyond INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to see it again at the El Capitan theater.

I want to organize another gathering to see when everyone in LA can get together for this. Was thinking after the holidays, maybe Friday January 7th? I am only off work Wed. thru Fridays in January. Definately don't want to wait past January, don't know how long it will stay at the theater.

and maybe if this rain would ever stop, a trip to the TRON sign on Sunset. Wanna do this after Christmas on a weekday night so will try and go next Wed. the 29th or 30th. Who knows how much longer the sign will stay there since the movie is out already. Don't want to miss out on a shoot there.

glad both of you are safe and no sustaining injuries. cars can be replaced but not lives.

i'll be unable to make that one because i'll be at the consumer electronics show in vegas. gadgets & tech is kinda my thing.

Soldering SMDs is a pain but they make solder paste that works quite well for this

also, depending on what he wants to do, you can get by without soldering smds directly. smds also come in led strips with an adhesive backing that you can cut into segments. manufacturers also sell connectors that lock into the ends. all the soldering that's required is on the power leads (red & black). soulintertia & twinight put some version of them in their identity discs.

I might have missed this in the amazing amount of great details here, but where did you pick up your flexible pvc. Im thinking of starting tests myself and like that idea.

Hello,
It shouldn't be difficult to find, since here in Spain we don't have many stores with raw materials, and I could find it, so I'm sure there are plenty of stores near to you that might have. US is paradise when it comes to things like this...
By now I'm using a 3mm sheet. Not very happy with the results by now I must say anyway...but I'm still trying different techniques.

Next stop, Luxprint. E-mailed Dupont for a quotation and how-to...

charkboy - If you watch this video here at min 2:17 and 4:06 you see what Caster has on under the coat and how it's laid out. I hope this helps.

Annisse - Thank God you and the sharp dressed man of yours are okay. Yikes!

Everyone else, keep up the good work :)

WOW!!!!
Beautiful work, you all look FANTASTIC!
Respect not only for your dedication but the finished suits are just to die for....and I know a thing or two about making these suits...:cool

Great work to everyone...and great pic. I wish I could have been there with you all.

Annisse glad to hear you're OK.

I have finally read through this whole thread and I love everyone's costumes. Thank you everyone for posting your step-by-steps for the rest of us.

Annisse I hope that my Quorra costume looks as good as yours.

I went out and picked up one of the Deluxe Identity rings this past weekend. Would love to get on the interest thread for the upgrades from Soulinertia and even get some of his hex pattern fabric. But since I am a new member, I will just have to wait to see if the run is still going in 45 days.

The movie was so awesome, going to try and see it again.

Yes. I used light tape on my jacket. Awesome people over there. Very helpful! However, it's not cheap. You have to add up all the square inches you are using and get the correct inverter or 2 inverters (I went with one inverter that was $100 by itself) but this stuff is MUCH MUCH easier to work with.

In their product PDFs they show rigging each seperate piece with a seperate connector in parallel, rather than in series, but it looks like all the connectors are attached to one wiring length.

Is this how you wired yours? Did you need to have a custom inverter/power wire made, or did you DIY it?

How did you attach it to your jacket?

@Annisse: Glad you're okay! Did you have full coverage on the car?

in the very, very rare chance that anybody here has a tron-related costume(joking) and who would be willing to submit for a costume competition on ign check this out:

Win Cool Tron: Legacy Swag! « EMoro-IGN Blog

Did anyone else read the costume contest and snort at how easy it'll be for some of the people here (*coughcoughAnnissecough*) to completely destroy in this contest?

Correct, each strip has it's own connector and wire. Those wires run back to the inverter and are powered. The way I worked it was I designed out how many strips I needed and tried to be a simple as possible. I ended up using 6 strips of 2 inch wide by 14 (give or take an inch or 2) for the front and back of the jacket, and 2 strips of 1 inch by 16 (give or take) and 2, 1 inch by 6 for the arms.

Each strip comes with a 3 foot copper wire which makes it very easy to run back to the inverter. I started with the strips farthest away from the inverter and worked my way back. Each new strip is put on top of the wire so its all hidden (as best as possible) The wire and strips are glues to the jacket with e3000 glue and then the edges are gaff tapped to make it more "smooth" looking. In the end I'm happy with what was done. However, after Halloween I ended up getting a short in one of the sleeve strips and although the rest of the jacket worked and lit up (yay for the parallel wiring) I had to fix that one strip so if I were to do it again I'd use less glue and leave a little room for the wires to move around. The fix only took about an hour (I intentionally bought extra cramps and connectors just in case of malfunctions) but because it was glued so securely I had a bit of futzing to do. This stuff is really easy to work with it's just pricey. Also, the inverter is their standard 100-500 square inch illumination inverter (PS-DC 500+) nothing custom. but I did wire in an on off toggle switch.

Just got an update from a friend on another forum that there will be Papercraft CLU, Sam & Quorra helmets coming soon, but not nearly in enough time for tomorrow. There's always ComicCon I guess. Seems like this thread should be sponsored by RedBull & 5 Hour Energy!

Been watching this thread for a while; awesome stuff! Just wondering if the papercraft helmets are ready and if you'd be so kind as to post a link. Thanks!
