Tron Legacy Costume

It's looking very nice. What are you plans for getting the neoprene armor to adhere to the bodysuit/under armor?
I want to use Velcro, but Won't know if that will work until I test but I will for sure post the test results, today I plan on knocking out the right side, I hope I can get it done faster since I have a method now.

harbinger808- not sure if you got a response to keeping you el-wire to stay put but u could do a few small stitches around key points. just thread it thru and wrap it around a few times then tie off and cut and go to the next spot. \-i think u came up with a great idea by the way. if my silicone version doesnt work im shooting for urs. im just trying to get a decent costume done for halloween.

now that ive finished reading the rest of the threads i like the poster board one and the neopream. every one on here is so flippin creative i love it. Every time i need inspiration i just read the new threads!

Aloha,
Well our first outing with our version of TRON Legacy was a hit at the first Halloween party of the season in Hawaii. We were actually the only TRON costume goers! As far as keeping things together, I ended up using E6000 to hold my el lites to my pants and boot but at the last minute, my boot shorted before i left the house :( But now I know how to make things better for this weekend. I will definitely add some stitches to key points, thanks for the advice. The one thing i did notice though, is all the drunk revelers sure do like to grab at the lites which didnt make things easier as the nite went on!

By the way, ill post pics later when i get them. heres a pic of my chest and back armor that i made up. the suit has an awesome glow to it in low/no light conditions.

I decided to make it flush to the rest of the neoprene, so I had to dig into it, which was a pain, I spent all day getting to look right but I succeeded

wow eddie, that looks fantastic. if i wasn't so pressed for time i'd seriously consider changing up my strategy. i also am using neoprene. mine is a full body wetsuit though, so all the armor is one piece. i am using sticky back velcro to hold it in place on my lycra body suit. it's not at all close to being ready for wear so i haven't been able to do a full test, but it seems to hold up well in the initial tests i did with some scraps.

Dear Nemesis,
I did use a white base acrylic paint. But the Glow just does not work as promised. This might be good for a kids costume, but for the effect we want, this simply will not do. I'm not sure , but Annisse may have not had any more success than I did.
Advise for those doing the Clu's sentry outfit, The vinyl cutain works out great with the EL wire. I was able to find a bright Red vinyl curtain. I'm using the Red as the top & the EL wire in the middle, and then the white vinyl on the bottom. The effect is fantastic. I haven't cut out my patterns yet. But it looks better than the EL tape. It has the brightness like those in the TRON trailer. As far as what colors are available in the shower curtain vinyl I haven't really looked. But I 'll keep you Guys posted if I spot anything.
"Two nights before your father disappeared, he came to my house. Flynn said he cracked it. He was talking about genetic algorithms, quantum teleportation. Flynn said he was about to change everything. Science. Medicine. Religion. He wouldn't have left that, Sam. And he wouldn't have left you." Alan
TRON PROJECT INITIATE SEQUENCE?

if you use screen printing paint with clear nail polish over the white acrylic paint it works and stays put. screen printing paint glows like crazy

Hey guys, just introducing myself!
I dont have photos yet, but i'm putting together a tron outfit. I decided not to mimic exactly the Sam Flynn outfit so just something similar. I've got 34 feet of aqua el-wire im going to attach to a black wetsuit. The guy at the el wire place said a spiral sewing around the wire is the best way to attach it, or silicone glue, i was thinking of trying both, esp for the area where there's going to be angles. Any thoughts on the better method?

I found gloves that are pretty similar at Home Depot. They're firm grip brand with goatskin leather. it even has the hexagonal print on it. They were 15, i can't find a link online, but I can add pix later. Also i had the idea to use window screen to add some texture to some areas so theres a sort of print. I got a roll at home depot for about 5 bucks!

I hear you on the time issue, I want to have it ready by this Friday but I am not so sure if I will make the deadline. Thanks for sharing the info about the Velcro.

after MONTHS of planning figuring out, designing, redesigning, soldering, re-soldering and everything else. I finally have a jacket that lights up! WOO-HOO!!!!! still have about 10% more stuff to do (adding LED's to the baton and cutting it down) as well as doing the final touches of the jacket with circles and angles but here it is!!!

PS sorry about the blurry pictures (its hard to take of yourself backwards)

And that's why I don't wear any light up costumes or my precious Comic Con costumes to any night clubs. Learned my lesson already. Things you make break and cry when you get home. Why did I wear this around drunken party ppl. ;P

Thank you! Okay here is the newest update. I made the template out of transparency paper then I taped the El wire to it, on the other side I taped it with masking tape to diffuse, then I was planing on using the shower curtain material but it was to difficult to keep in place and for it to stay flat so I am just sticking with the masking tape for now until I can come up with something that may work better, it still looks good, just has an off white color but then again so does the actual suit.

Thanks for your reply. So that's just transparency paper on the back and El Wire on top of that and then white masking tape on top of all that? Held all together on their sides with electrical tape? That is what I am seeing in your photos, black tape holding the sides together, correct me if I am wrong.

I really do love what you are doing here! :)

Eddie your Brilliant
i cant wait for my blasted wire to come on (taking for bloody ever)
once its in i will have to get started right away

how did you figure out the armor shape in relation to your body size??

oh and im going to ElecTRONica at California Adventure on Thursday
i spruced up a black blazer for it too
ill have to post pictures soon

Think trench scene in 'Star Wars'.

Almost....there....

I finally had to resort to a very low tech method to hook up to the EL sheet. Screws and nuts.

You can drill holes through the contact points on the EL sheet, thread a screw through, wrap the copper wire around it and then fasten everything together with a hex nut.

This seems to be the only way to keep the copper wire in constant contact with the EL sheet. All other methods didn't hold up when I started to move around.

Now that the movement problem is solved and all the designs are on the body armor, it's wire management time.

Currently it looks like a junction box asploded.

Should have all the wiring neatly tucked away by the end of the night, and hopefully a full light-up test will follow. Very inspired and encouraged by some of the other recent posts. Everyone is doing an excellent job. We're in the halloween home stretch. ;)

Excellent Idea. Great work! :thumbsup
