I took a stab at trying to design my own Tron Legacy Sam Flynn costume shirt.

I used screen shots from the different Tron Legacy trailers and some behind the scenes photos for reference.

It's my first project for this site. Let me know what you think.
Be kind please :confused

Thank for any help and kind criticism in advance.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Looks great! Will you add glow in the dark or florescent dye to it?

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Thanks guys.

I'm actually going to try to enter this on one of the t-shirt sites. I guess if it gets enough votes it will go to print.

And yes if it does get chosen I want to use glow in the dark colors for it.

It's the only way I know of to get this t-shirt printed correctly and be able to offer it to everyone. In the past I have designed some t-shirts but mostly iron-ons nothing of this magnitude though.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Would anyone else be interested in this? I want to try to submit this to Threadless tees but if there is not enough interest in it I will try to look else where to get it printed.

Or if there really isn't any that much interest in it at all I will probably just can the idea and move onto something else.

Is this maybe the wrong area of this site to post this at?

I'm interested, but more as a back up for the midnight showing if I can't put my Rinzler costume together in time... :)

DANGER IS MY MIDDLE NAME

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

I also wondering if this is fine as a short sleeve tee or should I try going for long sleeve or maybe a hoodie.

A couple people on the "Threadless" did say something about the other Tron tee (hoodie) "My Other Ride Is a Light Cycle" - Nerdy, Film, Pop Culture T-shirt by Rolf Nelson which is on the same site I'm trying to submit mine on. But that one is from the first movie and the designs are totally different. And plus the color of the shirt that that one is printed on is not that great of a color and they are pretty much all sold out of the better one.

The other thing is I would have to get through the submission stage on "Threedless" before it can go through the voting process. If it makes it through that and if I can get enough interest from this site and a bunch of my friends and for them to vote highly on it, then it will get printed.

Yeah, it's a long shot I know, but it's the best way I can think of to actually get this shirt to happen. I don't know of any other place online to get this shirt printed and have it printed with Glow in the Dark colors.

I'm going to try within the next couple of days to see if I can work up a long sleeve or hoodie design and post it up here and see what people think of that one compared to the short sleeve.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

The design is awesome! I'd totally buy this one.

As far as getting it through the submission stage, perhaps consider adding some gray line details to accentuate some of the paneling on the actual costume? It wouldn't be the glow-in-the-dark ink, but just one more level of detail to it. Certainly don't go down to the hex pattern level, but maybe just a few gray lines showing the edges of certain panels or something.

I know that if a t-shirt company is going to print a t-shirt, they have to know that it's going to sell, so they're gonna want that shirt's design to be all that it can be. On the other hand, though, simple works well too. So the gray lines might be too much. But it's just something to consider.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Nice design, I'd buy it as well.

I got the Tron T-shirt from Threadless; Cool stuff, but there's two small downpoints to me : The design is printed not high enough on the torso, making the 'T' symbol being more near my stomach than my torso; And while the glow effect is cool, it does require to be sunlighted to fully glow; In full sunlight is not really the place to use a glow-in-the-dark t-shirt, IMHO, so a better glow paint would have been nice.

Hope that will be of some help for you. :)

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Yeah doing the gray outlines of the other paneling of the costume would a little too much. Plus I think it would take ME far too long.

I'll see what options for Glow-In-The-Dark paint they have, I'll go with the best that they offer. If they only have one option I will still just have to go with that. If I don't add any Glow-In-the-Dark paint I don't think people would really be interested in buying it.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

I think that you may be able to find a local t-shirt company that could handle it...or learn to screen print :p
A quick search I did led me to /www.brokenarrowwear.com and I chose a shirt and set it to front and back printing with glow in the dark ink. 6 shirts is the minimum, and it came to $36 a shirt. I tried it with 25 shirts, and it came to $14 a shirt. It will be that way at just about any printing place. The more shirts that are to be printed, the cheaper it would be.

I'd look around your town and see if you could get a deal cut.

Going through an actual printing company or doing it yourself is the only way that you would know for sure if you got the design. Threadless is based completely on votes from the community, and from what I have seen happen, you really have to put yourself out there and advertise in order to get you designs printed.

If you wanted to screen print them yourself, it wouldn't be too bad either. It's not really a hard process. It would kind of cost a bit to start up, but if you reuse your screens the price would be worth it. I could write up a tutorial for you, or find a good on on the web if you like. You don't need all those pre-made screens and fancy set ups to do it, like a lot of sites show.

... I hope this gave you some ideas ^^;

I'd definitely want in on a run of these if you got them printed!

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

I actually did a few silk screen printings (t-shirt, canvas book covers, and patches) in high school a while back. But me personally I don't have the equipment to do it at home.

In regards to the site you found, if going through Threadless doesn't work, I will check that site out and other sites and probably any shops near me in town to which one would be best quality.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

Ok here is an updated version of the short sleeve shirt version and I got the hoodie finally done.

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - WIP

I also have a second version of the short sleeve tee with the marks on the sleeve as if it were on the hoodie, but are cut off where the sleeve ends.

What do you think is better to have them on or off like in my previous post?

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - Final versions (hoodie version added)

Definitely a hoodie!

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - Final versions (hoodie version added)

Does anyone think the disc on the back might need to be a little bigger?

Need me know what you think?

Re: Tron Legacy Costume t-shirt - Final versions (hoodie version added)

Those are pretty cool looking, the only thing that I can see wrong with them is that I can't decide whether I like the t-shirt or the hoodie better.
