TRON Legacy Civilian Program Build (in progress)

I know I've already posted about this in the costume planning thread for TRON but I decided to make a thread following the making of it. Be aware this is a civilian type program and wont be wearing a warrior outfit or a leather jacket. I got myself a sleeveless hoodie and I'm going to wear a performance shirt underneath it. So far I only have one strip of EL tape on it but I will be adding one on the inner lining of the hood once I get the velcro in the mail.

I also took my Sam Flynn disc and sprayed it with some glow paint to make it green

I will post pics once I get the hood set up with some tape. I'm also going to make a grid katana like Quorra has in the movie and after that, I'm making a second costume for my friend. I'm going to be broke for a long time. Should be fun though :)

Nice. I like neon green. For civilian pants, may I recommend picking up some second hand black skinny/straight jeans and adding skateboard pads and el?

This looks awesome so far, I like the idea of just a generic program. You can be much more relaxed without having to manage a ton of armor.
And might I suggest instead of just skinny jeans, a pair of black leather pants might look pretty cool.

Looks pretty good so far. It's good to see someone doing a civilian program costume, lots of room for creativity with the civilian costumes.

I have not seen leather pants for 2.50, nor have I seen skinny jeans that cheap. Nor would I want to wear skinny jeans that cheap. I know Hot Topic used to carry leather pants that weren't too expensive. And they wouldn't have to be leather, pleather would work too.

Also, if anyone here decides to search for leather pants online, watch the sites you click on. some pages may scar your eyes.

wow thanks guys didn't expect so much good feedback. I'm thinking of having a strip of tape on one of the pant legs but haven't decided. Might use reflective tape so im not using so many batts. But I'm waiting until I find the right compression top before I pick out pants. The one I found is no longer listed on ebay. And right when I planned to buy it. Oh well. When I do find a compression top I'm considering sewing some EL wire along the stitching

As my friend always says, why is it that women's clothes seem to be the best for this sort of thing?

Would you mind sharing the pattern you are using for that stripe? I really like the design!

Who cares dude! Rock those bad boys (girls).

Putting on a pair of pants shouldn't be an issue as long as you're able to squeeze yourself in it.

True, but the rise might be a little tight. I'd give them a try first.

For that price you could get these:
Xelement Men's Tri-Tex? Fabric and Leather Motorcycle Racing Pants

Looks like you can take the armor out too, if you wanted to.

Thank you. The pattern was actually off the top of my head while I was cutting up electrical tape and sticking it on. The Tron art book is a very good source of ideas from what I hear.

Those arent too shabby. Truth be told I'm trying to be a cheap ass when it comes to the under shirt and pants due to the fact the jacket and tape was expensive. and I have to make another costume for my friend. The only reason I'm paying for it is because he wouldn't on his own and I need someone to go to Anime Expo with me haha. And he's saving up for his wedding. So until summer, I'm going to be broke

Darn I may have to get the art book. Since I will be using reflective tape wit adhesive backing I should have a relatively easy time of cutting it into good shapes. What I need to find is the basic dimensions of the "circles" that appear on the costumes, as getting those right could be a necessity.

Also what do you guys think is a good amount of "light" for the programs? Would it be too much to do some on the chest, down the "stripes" on the arms, and then on the legs?

Honestly, that's all up to you. Just go with what you think looks cool. Seeing the huge assortment of looks in the movie I don't really think there is too much of a standard on that.
